Windows 10: CHKDSK stuck on 100%

Hello , I have WIN 11 , I was trying to download a large game , however an error message appeared that i might have an unreadable sectors on my external HD WD - MY BOOK EXFAT. so naturally i tried to scan the hard drive , however it got stuck so I downloaded an app Minitool and discovered around 38 unreadable block. Still , overall hard condition is not alarming , I tried using the same app to check file system , but same result , stuck at the last end 100%so I tried CMD as adminC:\Windows\System32>chkdsk e: /rThe type of the file system is exFAT.Volume Serial Number is *******A media

CHKDSK C: stuck on 100%

Yes, powershell admin. Regardless, the actual checking process happens after a reboot before the login, that is where the issue appears.

I'll give it a shot from cmd admin instead of PS, although I doubt it matters.

Edit: CMD doesn't make any difference.

Whenever I run chkdsk c: /f I get it stuck at 100%, and the only thing I can do is reboot. After reboot there's a short image with the 100% completion and then the boot completes normally. These 2 reboots generate only ONE Wininit event, and it will always
contain lines such as:

Stage 3: Examining security descriptors ...

Cleaning up 6 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9.

Cleaning up 6 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9.

Cleaning up 6 unused security descriptors.

When I run chkdsk /scan I get no errors or these unused entries, why, I don't know. That's about the only difference.

So, /f results in unused index entries and gets stuck at 100%, and /scan comes up clean.

 

CHKDSK C: stuck on 100%

A bit more info:

- a Win 10 RS4 VM in VMware is not exhibiting this issue (not rebooting after finishing chkdsk c: /f)

- there are still these even on the VM, I assume it's common and not related to my main PC getting stuck on 100%

- tried uninstalling Kasperky Internet Security (no effect)

- uninstalled Easeus Todo Backup and Partition Master (no effect)

- tried clean booting, ran chkdsk c: /f, rebooted as required, still stuck on 100%

Any idea how can I find the culprit without uninstalling each and every app or fresh installing RS4? Not that I have any other apps left that can potentially mess with boots/have services or drivers etc...

 

Win 10 2004 chkdsk stuck on 100%

I have run chkdsk as admin as I thought I may have some network file errors.

It ran OK and now is stuck displaying "scanning and repairing drive (C: 100%

How should this be fixed please
