Windows 10: "Choose Defaults by file type" no .pdf option

Hey, got Acrobat installed but cant set it as default app to open pdf files.i have been in setting- default - "Choose Defaults by file type" ..., but there is no .pdf extension only .pdfxml right click on pdf file ---- NO OPTION TO CHANGE DEFAULT PROGRAMRight click pdf file - OPEN WITH only gives me option to open JUST ONCE no option to ALWAYS i reinstalled edge , deactivate option in edge for pdf,... reinstalled acrobat and other pdf viewersnothing helps i did DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanhealthDISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthDISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcompon

1. Which update was installed on the computer?
   

There are few reasons that can be considered as to why you are having issues with preferred default applications on the device. It can be because of an update that was installed on the computer. Kindly follow the below steps and
make the necessary changes to resolve the issue.



Step 1: Change default apps through control Panel.

• Open Control Panel by typing Control Panel in Start menu and then press
  Enter key.
  
• Change the Control Panel View by to Small icons. Click
  Default Programs to open Default Programs window.
  
• Select the first option- Set your default programs.
  
• In the left-pane, select your web browser or any other program that you want to set as your default program.
  
• Once you select a program or app, you will see
  Set this program as default option on the right-side. Click set this program as default option to set it as default.
  

Step 2: To choose default apps by File type in Settings.

• Open Settings > Click on
  Apps > Select Default apps from the left pane.
  
• Click on Choose default apps by file type option from the bottom of the right pane.
  
• Click on Choose a default option and choose an app to always open the file type with by default.

can't remove a pdf from my win10 desktop

Thank you for your response.



We would suggest you to perform these steps and check.



Step 1:
Turn off Preview pane in Windows Explorer

1. 
   Open File Explorer, Click on View tab.
   
2. 
   Click on Preview option to hide or close
   
3. Click on Desktop from the Navigation pane. Then try deleting the file.

Step 2: Check the default PDF application

1. 
   Press Windows + I key to launch Windows Settings.
   
2. 
   Click on Apps and select Default apps from the left pane.
   
3. 
   Now scroll down and click on Choose default apps by file type.
   
4. 
   Scroll and look for .pdf, .pdxml, and .pdx file type, then click on the + sign to change it to Edge.
   
5. Then close Settings and try
   deleting the file.

Step 3: If the default app for PDF is Adobe Reader.

1. 
   Open Adobe Reader. Go to Edit.
   
2. 
   Choose Preferences.
   
3. 
   From the Categories on the left, select Security (Enhanced).
   
4. 
   Uncheck the Enable Enhanced Security option.
   
5. Try
   deleting the file

file type is not included in the list of types to choose from to associate a file with

in "Choose default apps by file type" in Windows 10, there are two file types that are not listed; how do I add a file type to the list so that I can associate that file type with a file. For example, I often receive a file that has a file type of .stmt
and another fle with a file with the name viewdoc.file. They are both PDF files. But neither of these file types are available for me to choose from in the default list. How do I add them?
