  1. Choose to skip, replace or create a copy of the file

hello, I have a problem with windows 10, and it is that I work with files and I constantly need to create backup copies of them, but, when I try to copy the files in the same folder where I have already saved a copy, it does not let me choose whether to replace or copy files, automatically create a copy example: Filecopy1

    :)

  2. Skip or replace files dialog box missing while copying files with same names

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are not receiving the option to skip or replace the files, while copying files with same names. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?
    2. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?

    Refer the article
Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Meanwhile, you can follow the suggestion mentioned below and see if that helps.

    Method 1:

Try resetting the File Explorer settings to defaults and see if that helps.

    1. Press Windows +
E key to open File Explorer.
    2. Now click on View and click on
      Options.
    3. On the Folder
Options window click on Restore Defaults.
    4. Now click on View tab and click on
      Restore Defaults.

Try copying the files with same names and see if you get the Skip or replace option window.

    Method 2:

Uncheck the Folder Merge Conflicts option and see if that helps. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. Press Windows +
E key to open File Explorer.
    2. Now click on View and click on
      Options.
    3. On the Folder
Options window click on View tab.
    4. Under Advanced
settings scroll down and uncheck the option Hide
      folder merge conflicts.
    5. Click on Apply and
      OK.

If the issue persists, please get back to us with the details of the troubleshooting steps to assist you further.

Dialog box " Replace or skip file" missing - Creating copies instead

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that you do not get the Replace or Skip file dialog box. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

As you have already tried resetting the File Explorer settings to default and unchecked the Hide folder merge conflicts, you may want to try changing the registry settings and see if that helps.

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    Refer the article How
to back up and restore the registry in Windows

I would also recommend you to create a system restore point.

    1. Press Windows logo key + R to open Run dialog box.
    2. In Run dialog box, type ‘regedit’ and hit Enter.
    3. On the left hand pane navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
    4. On the right hand pane right click on empty space and select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
    5. Rename it to HideMergeConflicts.
    6. Double-click on the DWORD and change the Value Data to 0.
    7. Restart the PC.

You may want to try running the troubleshooter, which will automatically diagnose and repair problems with files and folders in Windows. Refer the article on Automatically
diagnose and repair Windows file and folder problems
    .

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to try creating a new user account and see if the issue persists in new user account.
    Refer the article Create
a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
    .

    Let us know the results.
