Windows 10: Chrome browser installs apps/shortcuts on Windows clients automatically

My System Setup:Operating System: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit Default Browser: Google Chrome Version 120.0.6099.71 Official Build 64-bit The Problem: Chrome browser installs apps/shortcuts on Windows clients automatically, without user consent. Control Panel => Programs => Programs and Features => Uninstall or change a program => right-click on program Name Publisher Google\Chrome => click Uninstall => no response

No outlook.com app shortcut icon in chrome

Uninstalling chrome make's the chrome Outlook.com app https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/hotmail checker i use, disappear from chrome as a shortcut next to the star button for bookmarks and the settings button where i have adblock and google chromecast icon

How do i get it back, i use windows 8.1 64 bit, extremly annoying that i can't get this icon,button back in chrome, please help me *Smile

 

Desktop chrome shortcut icons turned into blank papers!!!

2. Rebuild the icon cache: The icon cache is a database that stores the icons for all the files and programs on your computer. If the cache becomes corrupted, it can cause issues with icons. To rebuild the icon cache, follow these steps:
   
   • Open File Explorer and navigate to the following folder: C:\Users[Your Username]\AppData\Local
     
   • Locate the "IconCache.db" file and delete it (you may need to enable the option to show hidden files and folders in File Explorer settings).
     
   • Restart your computer.
     
3. Reset Chrome shortcuts: If the issue persists only with Chrome shortcuts, you can try resetting them by following these steps:
   
   • Right-click on the blank paper icon and select "Properties."
     
   • In the Properties window, click on the "Shortcut" tab.
     
   • Click on the "Change Icon" button.
     
   • In the "Change Icon" window, click on the "Restore Defaults" button.

Setting Chrome as my default browser - Windows 10

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

I would suggest you to try these steps to see if it resolves the issue.

• Go to Start > Settings > System.
• Choose Default apps, then scroll down to
  Web browser.
• Tap or click the browser that’s currently listed as your default, then choose Chrome from the list of apps
