Windows 10: Chrome default browser problem & not updating

I've had this problem ever since I installed Windows 10 many months ago. Chrome is set as the default browser. If I open it and pin it to the task bar, after a while it'll start opening a new instance of Chrome (it takes up an additional slot on the task bar as shown below).





Sometimes, Chrome will tell me that it's not the default browser. Even though it clearly is. Windows will show 2 apparently different Chromes to select as the default:





If I go to installed programs, there's only one listing for Chrome.

Additionally, Chrome won't update itself. It'll show that it's out of date and tells me to download it manually.





I've done so each time, but these issues persist. Any ideas?

Browser - Problem with changing bowser from Edge to Chrome, IE,

Updated to Win10 a while ago already and there has never been a problem to switch the default browsers EDGE (recommended), CHROME or INTERNET EXPLORER, until now (received an update a few days ago). I have been using EDGE as my default browser for a
little while already but I wanted to try/experiment with CHROME as my default browser. Now when I go to Settings/systems/web browser and click on CHROME or IE, or even EDGE again, the icon doesn't show what it is. I have to reset and the EDGE icon comes back
on. It seems to change the default browser without showing it - re: Settings/systems/web browser. After the change, the CHROME page keeps showing that it is not the default browser and ask to change it to make it the default browser. (which has already been
done in the settings). Identical problem with my two computers. It might just a minor glitch!!. Has anyone out there experience this problem and if so, is there a fix?
