Windows 10: Chrome not staying as Default Browser after restart of computer

I have two separate users that cannot keep Chrome as their Default Browser.


They set it while they are logged in but then after a restart of the computer the browser reverts back to IE11.


I have logged in as both the PC Local Admin, as well as just a standard Local Admin on our domain and made the default browser change and it still reverts after a reboot.


I have also tried launching task manager, ending the explorer.exe process and then recreating explorer.exe w/ admin privileges and making the default browser selection, and the performing a reboot and that is not working either.

Just for understanding, Chrome is listed as default under default browser (settings/apps/default) after changing to Firefox, and not just a "nag" from Chrome upon startup wanting to be default ? And when you browse, Chrome is the browser ?

You may want to run sfc/scannow for corrupt files. Also, consider resetting/reinstalling Chrome.

I would suggest you to try these steps to see if it resolves the issue.

• Go to Start > Settings > System.
• Choose Default apps, then scroll down to
  Web browser.
• Tap or click the browser that’s currently listed as your default, then choose Chrome from the list of apps

This issue might occur if there is change in system settings or default browser program is change correctly.



I suggest you to follow the steps to change the default browser as Chrome browser and check if it helps.

1. Type "Control Panel" without the quotes in search box and click on it.

2. Click on Programs.

3. Then click on Default Programs and click on
Set Default Programs.

4. Click on chrome browser from the list.

5. Click on Set this program as default.
