Windows 10: Chrome side panel to behave more like Microsoft Edge; is Google Bard integration next?

Microsoft Edge has a sidebar allowing anyone to access their favourite tools like Bing Chat, Outlook, MSN games, and other features alongside the browser itself. Google has a similar feature called ‘side panel’, which is getting a big server-side update that adds features from Google Search, hinting at possible Bard or SGE (Search Generative Experience) integration.

With the side panel, Google copied Microsoft Edge’s sidebar idea, but the company initially limited the feature to customization options, offering colours, themes and settings via the side panel. Google already allows users to customize the browser, but the side panel works in real-time and lets you make changes as you use the browser.

It seems that Google Search’s interactive features are now accessible directly via the side panel in Chrome Canary. This has led to speculation about whether Google might integrate Bard or SGE (Search Generative Experience) into the browser at some point in the future, which bring it on par with Microsoft Edge.

Google has substantially overhauled its side panel by integrating features from Google.com. For example, when visiting well-known websites like WindowsLatest.com or CNN.com, users can access additional information through the side panel. This includes related searches, a website description, and similar articles.

Particularly interesting is the “About this source” section. It provides details about the source of a specific webpage, offering information such as a description, the platform information, and when Google first indexed/featured the site.

This deeply integrated side panel bears a striking resemblance to Microsoft Edge’s sidebar functionality. Edge’s Discover/Bing integration, which Bing Chat has replaced, offered similar insights, such as related topics, more about the opened page, website, and more.

The deeper Google Search integration in the side panel also speculates that Google might soon incorporate Bard or its Search Generative Experience (SGE). For those unaware, SGE uses AI to summarize web content, help you understand topics faster, and explore new viewpoints and insights.

Such integration could mark a significant stride in Google Chrome’s evolution.

Microsoft Edge already comes with Bing Chat integration, allowing anyone to access the generative AI experience from the browser’s sidebar.

Chrome’s side panel is a new way to access features

In Chrome Canary, Google’s side panel currently has helpful features, such as a Reading list, Bookmarks, Journeys (Chrome search history feature that helps you pick up stuff from where you left off), Reading mode, and Google Search (discussed above).

It is worth noting the company is still working on the new side panel experience for Chrome, and we don’t know when it will begin rolling out to the general public.

Windows 10 and Google chrome problems

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

As you have mentioned that now you rolled back to windows 7 ultimate.I would suggest you to follow the steps given below and check.

Uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome and check

To uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome follow the steps given below.

Press start button.

Select Control Panel.

In Control Panel , Click on
Programs

Then Click on Programs and features.

Select Google Chrome and Click Uninstall button

Uninstall Chrome prompt dialog appears and the further uninstallation process continues if you click uninstall button. Once Google Chrome gets uninstalled, you can download and install Google Chrome from its official website,
and check if issue persists.

If issue still didn’t get resolved by the above mentioned steps, I would also suggest you to post the query in Google support forums for more help.

Google Chrome not working windows 10

Is the issue confined to Google Chrome?

Have you tried uninstalling/re-installing Google Chrome?

There could be several reasons for this cause. I would suggest you to try the steps below and check the result.

Uninstall Google Chrome and then re-install

Press Windows key + X and click Programs & Features

Right click Google Chrome and click Uninstall

Re-install Google Chrome and check.

Google Bard is getting better at logic and reasoning

Two Bard improvements are launching today. First, Bard is getting better at mathematical tasks, coding questions and string manipulation. And it has a new export action to Google Sheets: So when Bard generates a table in its response — like if you ask it to “create a table for volunteer sign-ups for my animal shelter” — you can now export it right to Sheets.

Better responses for advanced reasoning and math prompts

A new technique called “implicit code execution” helps Bard detect computational prompts and run code in the background. As a result, it can respond more accurately to mathematical tasks, coding questions and string manipulation prompts. So Bard will get better at answering prompts like:

What are the prime factors of 15683615?

Calculate the growth rate of my savings

Reverse the word “Lollipop” for me

Let’s dig deeper into this new capability and how it’s helping Bard improve its responses.

Improved logic and reasoning skills

Large language models (LLMs) are like prediction engines — when given a prompt, they generate a response by predicting what words are likely to come next. As a result, they’ve been extremely capable on language and creative tasks, but weaker in areas like reasoning and math. In order to help solve more complex problems with advanced reasoning and logic capabilities, relying solely on LLM output isn’t enough.

Our new method allows Bard to generate and execute code to boost its reasoning and math abilities. This approach takes inspiration from a well-studied dichotomy in human intelligence, notably covered in Daniel Kahneman’s book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” — the separation of “System 1” and “System 2” thinking.

System 1 thinking is fast, intuitive and effortless. When a jazz musician improvises on the spot or a touch-typer thinks about a word and watches it appear on the screen, they’re using System 1 thinking.

System 2 thinking, by contrast, is slow, deliberate and effortful. When you’re carrying out long division or learning how to play an instrument, you’re using System 2.

In this analogy, LLMs can be thought of as operating purely under System 1 — producing text quickly but without deep thought. This leads to some incredible capabilities, but can fall short in some surprising ways. (Imagine trying to solve a math problem using System 1 alone: You can’t stop and do the arithmetic, you just have to spit out the first answer that comes to mind.) Traditional computation closely aligns with System 2 thinking: It’s formulaic and inflexible, but the right sequence of steps can produce impressive results, such as solutions to long division.

With this latest update, we’ve combined the capabilities of both LLMs (System 1) and traditional code (System 2) to help improve accuracy in Bard’s responses. Through implicit code execution, Bard identifies prompts that might benefit from logical code, writes it “under the hood,” executes it and uses the result to generate a more accurate response. So far, we've seen this method improve the accuracy of Bard’s responses to computation-based word and math problems in our internal challenge datasets by approximately 30%.

Even with these improvements, Bard won’t always get it right — for example, Bard might not generate code to help the prompt response, the code it generates might be wrong or Bard may not include the executed code in its response. With all that said, this improved ability to respond with structured, logic-driven capabilities is an important step toward making Bard even more helpful. Stay tuned for more.
