Windows 10: Classic Shell won't install v4.3.0

Discus and support Classic Shell won't install v4.3.0 in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; I used to have this on my laptop.     Classic Shell won't install v4.3.0


    I used to have this on my laptop. Then I upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary build and during this I was told that Classic Shell had been removed. Classic Shell is now compatible with this Windows build but I cannot get it to install now. I get the message 'The specified account already exists'. I've tried cleaning the registry to no avail.

    I know it works on this build because I installed iton my spare laptop that didn't have Classic Shell on it before so I'm wondering if MS have 'rigged' this laptop to prevent me installing it again.

    Anyone had this problem?

    I can't believe they removed this functionality. Seems like common sense. I'm going to install classic shell. It's shameful that MS won't even acknowledge this thread.

    Classic Shell

    One of my user accounts also uses Classic Shell, and it's never been uninstalled by a Windows 10 update. Install it again from the Classic Shell website.

    Classic Shell won't install v4.3.0

    First make sure you got a legit version of the installer. Around August 2 Classic Shell was hacked and the legit installer was replaced by a malicious version. I suggest you redownload the installer. Post back and if it still does not install we'll look into it.

    Yes, I read about that and that IVO, who own s Classic Shell has said that it has all been sorted and that the v4,3.0 offered on his site is good.

    Yes, now everything has been sorted out. If you downloaded the installer lately it should be legit. To check the file right click on it, select properties and there look for the tab "Digital Signatures". If there is a signature everything is fine with the file.

    Have you deleted all remnants of Classic Shell before reinstalling? There are files under userprofile\AppData\Local and also in the hidden folder ProgramData on C. And of course the ones in Program Files.

    Fixed it! It involved a lot of digging in all the 'dark places' but I got there in the end, thanks to your suggestions as well altae!

    Nice to have Classic Shell back, 'cocking a snook' at Microsoft makes me feel better!
