  1. Clean, formatted Windows 10 install, non-stop BSoDs

At this point, I'm just about to give up and install Linux, seriously.

I recently assembled an Asrock A320m Pro4 with Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, single 8gb stick of Kingston HyperX RAM (HX424C15FB2/8), GTX 1050 and fresh installed Windows 10 pro to a formatted Kingston SA400 SSD. I have a couple older 1TB Sata HDs as well.

My system won't stay up for 20 minutes. Sometimes it gives a BSoD and freezes when the counter reaches 100%, leaving no dump behind. Sometimes it manages to restart and leaves a dump. I have counted at least 5 different error messages. I turned on Driver Verifier on all non Microsoft drivers, but then the BSoDs stopped entirely... instead, I got straight restarts, freezes, and one time the screen went black and I got a couple hundred warnings in quick succession in Event Viewer that the graphics driver stopped working and "recovered"(yeah, right).

The symptoms are so varied my first thought was a faulty RAM stick, but extensive MemoryTest86 tests found nothing wrong with it.

I have been struggling with this crap for one week now. Please help me.

    :)

    Windows 10 formatting ?

We upgraded windows 7 to 10. Many crashes and errors after that. So a format and clean install of windows 10. Activated automatically. Zero issues and no more crashes etc etc.
So I'm inclined to say to just go for it. And if a problem, then use your windows 7 key.

    Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.
