Clean Install - Nothing but problems

    Hello,

When I installed, I deleted all partitions etc. on the C: drive (my 120Gb SSD).
Device manager doesn't show any problems (no yellow warning symbols etc.)

Nus, thanks for looking at the Asus website. Yes, there are no specific Windows 10 drivers but the (appalling) Asus forum doesn't have any posts from disgruntled upgraders. I did install the 8.1 stuff from the Asus drivers section of the motherboard support page but no difference I'm afraid. In fact, when I just logged on to reply here, my screen was just black with a white cursor and I had to use the reset button on my PC to start up again.
I also tried Driver Booster this morning and it did update about 13 drivers - however, the problems still persist.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    OK, just so we're clear:

Were you running Windows 8.1 on the same rig without issues?

When you upgraded to Windows 10 did it run without issues?

What graphics card are you using?

  3. ymisyd Win User
Yes, Windows 8.1 running absolutely fine - no problems.
Windows 10 seemed to run ok following the upgrade (I didn't wait too long as I intended to clean install all along)
Graphics card is AMD Radeon HD7700

    Thanks,
    Mark

p.s. this is the response from Asus re the P8P67 motherboard :

"I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your P8P67 however thisparticular motherboard is not compatible with Windows 10 and we do not have anyinformation on whether or not it will support it in the near future.

At this time we cannot recommend using Windows 10 on this motherboard.

If or when this motherboard will support Windows 10, drivers will be madeavailable for it on the Official ASUS support page specific to your product.

Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get back intouch with us."

When you did the clean install, did you disconnect your raid drives and just leave the SSD to install on?

Yes. As I was having such trouble installing I disconnected all other drives beforehand. The raid drives function perfectly after installation with all data intact and drive letter as before.

Because they have been so much help so far *Sad I have yet to upgrade but this is the kind of stuff that worries me.
May I ask did your PC pass the compatibility test?

    thanks

Then, go to the ASUS Help page for your Mobo and read through the Win10 items -- maybe something there will help: P8P67 FAQ | Motherboards | ASUS Global

Unfortunately, those are generic questions that aren't directly related to my mobo (or even Windows 10). Strangely, as they've told me the mobo isn't compatible with Win10, why do they even have those post Win10 upgrade FAQs on there?

Yes, the upgrade logo came up on Win 8.1 and Microsoft list the mobo as compatible.

p.s. I've just confirmed something that I thought I might be imagining. I've just gone to a website in Internet Explorer that I know I haven't been to since the clean install. The website had my username and password stored.
How is this so? If I'm logged in with a Microsoft account, do they store this stuff remotely?
Was this not a "clean" install at all?

I suppose I just found the answer to my own question....

"Your account info is encrypted and stored on your PC – it isn't shared between user accounts and other apps on the PC can't read the passwords. But, if you sign in to a different PC with your Microsoft account, you'll be able to sign in to sites with your saved account info in Internet Explorer because this info is roamed across devices."

  14. The Onedrive Sync feature can backup and sync your IE favorites and website logon inf. On a clean install it Syncs it back in if your using a Microsoft Account. You can Sync your lock screen picture, theme, desktop background etc. It's all in the Onedrive Sync settings. For what it's worth, I have Windows 10 running on an ASUS M2N68-AM SE2 and an M4N68T-M V2. Both are old motherboards with no Windows 10 drivers listed for download from ASUS. Both work just fine with the default Windows drivers. The Video and Sound drivers get installed via Windows update on the first log in. I'm also running Windows 10 on my ASUS K75DE laptop, same deal, work just fine with the stock drivers. It's not that old but last time I checked there were no Windows 10 drivers available for it from ASUS. All three of these devices were upgraded to Windows 10 Pro via the free upgrade. I have since done clean installs on the M2N68 and my laptop. No problems with that either. Wish I had more to offer in the way of help. Will keep watching this thread though.

  15. Prepare your drive for the clean install. Wipe the drive, delete all partions, and reformat your drive. If you updated your original OS to win 10 no serial required for clean install. Hope this isn't a troll thread. Strange outcome here. Just sayin.
