Windows 10: clean install of windows 10

How does one know that they have a clean install of windows 10.

Where do you go to see that it is a clean installation of windows 10 and that your previous version is now gone completely.

I looked under activation and that only says that I have windows 10 pro activated. If it's not a clean installation shouldn't it say that somewhere? ?

Original Title: Win 10 upgrade

Now that I have upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10

I see by right clicking "This PC" it shows a win 10 product ID number.

Does this mean now that I have upgraded Win 7 and have a product

ID number that I can reinstall on a clean drive (same computer)?

My Win 7 install was a little buggy before the upgrade and I would like

a fresh install on an SSD drive. I was told win 7 would no longer work

after the upgrade so reinstalling win 7 before win 10 may not be possible.

But later on when you have all your applications running again where do you go to see that it says you have a clean installation of windows 10??

Somewhere it must say that this is a clean install...

If you installed programs on top of a clean install, it is NO LONGER a clean install. You may be a little off on what you think others refer to as a clean install. Perhaps you're worried about whether or not your install (clean or not) is properly activated - though you said you've checked that? Please be more specific about your concern.

A clean install is when you take a computer with no operating system on it and install an operating system on it.
An upgrade is when you take a computer with an operating system on it and you upgrade that installed operating system to a newer or different version.

 

Exactly. That is what I was referring to. A clean install. Using the same words others have used.

 

By the way. One of things I do to remind me of maintenance schedules on a new device is to use a sticky label with the next maintenance date written on (every xx months depending on the system). So, for example, I've just built and installed a new system with a custom water loop. So the sticky label goes on the side door. Maybe you could do something similar for yourself to keep track of install dates. *Smile

 

Ah, just run Showkey found on this forum. It will tell you a previous OS Product Key if you were upgraded!

On a clean install it will show only your current product key and any that are stored in bios that a clean install would not erase anyway.
