  1. Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First

I just upgraded as well as downloaded the 10565 Insider build on a 10 VM earlier. I had just seen the VM set up last night and the Insider build came with tonight's check for updates when having that set for the Fast option. The VM wasn't even activated while I was still able to see the ISO downloaded but to the VM. I could use that on the second desktop where 10 won't connect by WiFi only hard wire to the router which lacks even any 8.1 drivers! I still have to run 7 there however when going to cart the mini tower around.

Surprisingly the upgrade from the 10240 to 10565 build went smotth without any bugs found yet at tleast but still on a VM not a physical install. I first need to retrieve the iso from the VM to run that on the mini tower. Not having much but the Team Viewer program and a few other things set up including additional Quick Launch tool bars you wouldn't even have known the upgrade took place!

Swueet, very sweet read! Was looking for a way to bypass the PAE & EMT64 sys checks for my slightly aged Netbook (Atom 1.6, 2g ram, Dell). Just couldn't get past shelling out for Win10 on an ole' handy tool box. Running the preview builds nicely, even better than Win7 did, its mostly fer surfin, scripting, rdp, etc. I knew there had to be some additional digging fer a werk-around & since the OP was quite informative, I thought I'd join & say thx Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First :p

Ahh though I've lost alot of stuff, my instincts & from many reads, cleaner is better. Besides, I'm not even sure I remember what all had been installed & all those reg entries :\

You must copy the file to your desktop first, then "Run as administrator" from your desktop.

Otherwise, it won't do anything like you're seeing now. *Smile

Just need to back up first, and write down apps installed, find install disks, lots to do...

    Great news bullfights. *Smile

You might also create a restore point before each item in case you may need to do a system restore for a quick undo if you had issues.

  10. well better start again, same issues...I know this isn't the place to discuss, but video files (xxxx.ts) are not being thumb nailed, its just a blank file, clicking on it I should get file details but don't.

  12. I think that may depend on the version you are upgrading from or how the system protections are set up. When trying it out of a folder on one of the storage drives the xml file still showed up. For the recommendation however I keep two new desktop icons available.

Starting a separate thread would be a good idea since you can also discuss the type of video files you are working with there.

  14. ok I am back up, with stock 10, no apps installed other than what 10 installed.

I went thru a clean install, formatting the HD and I just checked to see of Windows is activated and it states yes, I didn't copy over the xml file, and just checked the genuine folder and its empty. Do I still need to copy the xml file over? I skipped adding the key during install

  15. As with any new version I have spent time with I always end up needing to find solutions for varying issues including previously as well as lately waiting for something to be updated. Between two desktops and a laptop I have already seen several clean installs with only one now a second on a VM however upgrades come out in working shape! The guide however will be a real timer as you saw for yourself on no longer needing to run into any buggy upgrade installs to see 10 go right on fresh.

The second desktop saw the upgrade go smooth as well as the 10565 Insider build upgrade over the current 10240 RTM on the VM set up to evaluate Insider builds by intent there! Since nothing there can actually be activated the Fast option for receiving each newer build won't be any problem while I plan to keep the physical installs running a long time! *Biggrin
