Cleanup issue, doesn't appear in list

Hi all! I would say I'm a windows expert, and sadly I'm facing several bugs of Win10 compared to Win7.. they appear randomly on different hardware, I still use Win7 till Ms will solve all these issues.

Win10 64 installed ad updated, system is fresh/just installed, my windows folder is up to 17GB, when I statr cleanup it scans, then I press the "clean system files" button, it scans again and I can see it scans also for unecessary windows update files, it takes some minutes while hard drive is also working so it finds many of them, but when it display again the options I can't see there the windows update entry.. what can be wrong here?
How can I force remove those files? there is any command line with DISM?

    Please help, thank you

    :)

Disk Cleanup Windows doesn't appear when I click on it.

    Hi,

Disk Cleanup tool is a useful utility in deleting junk files. There are probable reasons why your Disk Cleanup tool is not working properly. We suggest that you follow the steps provided below:

Method 1 - Delete Temp Files:

Removing the temporary files can help in making the Disk Cleanup tool working.

    • Press Win+R and write %temp% in the open window and click
      Enter.
    • The temp folders will become visible. Select the available temp files, perform a right click and select
      Delete.
Return back to the tool and try to start it to see if it is working.

Method 2 - Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Many times Windows update becomes responsible for Disk Cleanup issue. In this case, running troubleshooter is the best idea.

    • Right click theStart
      menu and select Control Panel.

    • Change the
      View by: Categoryinto
      Large icons.

    • Select and click
      Troubleshooting.

    • Now select and click
      System and Security.

    • Click Windows Update.

    • Click on the tiny link
      Advanced on the troubleshooter.

    • Click on Run as administrator link positioned in the right bottom section. Once The troubleshooter looks like just above image click Next.
It will detect the troubles if exists, so follow the on-screen guidelines to complete the troubleshooting. Try to run the Disk Cleanup once again.

Feel free to get back to us should you need further assistance.

Cleanup issue, doesn't appear in list

    Welcome to TenForums @Barabba

It should be there, but won't be ticked by default. It should be listed as 'Update package backup files'. If you still can't see it, you can get a more comprehensive list of files that can be cleaned by using extended disk clean-up, Option Two in this tutorial.

Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

    Hi @barraba,

Your Windows folder is not really that huge. In comparison, my C drive is at 18.8GBs and my Windows folder is at 15.4 GBs.

So, in addition to the helpful information @Bree has provided, you might want to see if your "system restore points" are taking up a nice chunk of space:

Note that I have mine turned off because I use Macrium Reflect to perform routine/periodic disk imaging so there is no need for me to leave it turned on.

    Good luck,

thank you mates for kind and prompt answer,
in my opinion this entry should appear, like others even if they report a "0 byte" as to be cleaned. If there isn't it is a bug, like some others huge bugs I've found on Win10.

I' running the extended cleanup, I did but without starting cmd as admin (I turned off UAC, and I'm the admin of PC, so I supposed I didn't need it). Now it looks recompressing cabs file and cleaning probably at next reboot. I'll tell you checking the free space later.
Yes I already empty and reduced the space for system restore, thank you for posting.

This copy of Windows had installed different updates during setup, and run windows update 3-4 times later.. I would suppose there are at least 4GB of about hundred thousands useless files around.. unless Win10 not cleaning itself as scheduled task (by night for example), and I strongly dubt about it because slow computers are good reason for buying a new one, it looks impossible there is anything to clean..

the size still the same.. so nothing was done.
Maybe there are issues into Winsxs that prevent cleanmgr to consider clean it? how may I fix them?
    Thanks

It's not a bug, it's by design and always has been. If one of the 'occasional' items like 'update backups' or 'previous widows installations' has 0 bytes then it won't be listed. It has worked this way since Windows XP (and Windows 95).

It's more likely that there's nothing to be cleaned, particularly on a fresh install. You can use DISM to analyse the component store and, if DISM recommends it, clean it up.

If you really want to take your space recovery initiative a step further, I would recommend you download Wise Disk Cleaner (portable), run it, and see how much space you could recover using the 'slimming system" options selectively. Also, if you want to see what cleaning options you might have with regard to the SXS folder, I have attached a pdf document with the details. Note: I did not write this document and I don't remember where I got it from but I have used the options contained within successfully (without instance) many times. Same goes for Wise Disk Cleaner.

I hesitated to make these recommendations but they have worked for my purposes.

    Good luck,

  11. Well, for being an "expert" on Windows, why did you not elevate your cmd? It seems to me the main reason you are here is to slam Win10, by any way you can think of. I've noticed very few "bugs" myself and no "huge" ones. I'm far from being an expert but have been trashing and fixing various windows installations since Win95 and am totally happy with 10. If you want to stay on 7 till ..... whenever ..... that's your right but don't manufacture "problems" when they aren't there.

    Welcome to the forums btw.

thank you a lot for solutions, I'll check them as soon as possible. And thanks to welcome me and help, I really really appreciate this forum!

Well, I'm not here for slam but to solve issues, anyway I can't hide my disappointment about some relevant issue I noticed in different computers where I tested Win10 (most recent updates merged on the installation ISO) or where they came from shop with.. and I can't understand how Ms let Win7 "win the battle" (in terms of usability/less bugs), after months they didn't fix them and pretend Win10 be installed in all PC of the world. If they are far from it there should be a reason.. lot of work should be done yet, anyway I'm sure it will become good as Win7 is now in some years *Smile

Cleanup issue, doesn't appear in list

typing a DISM /StartComponentCleanup I've got this, and it terminates.

Failed to Load the provider: C:\Windows\system32\Dism\SiloedPackageProvider.dll. - CDISMProviderStore::Internal_GetProvider(hr:0x8007007e)

I suppose this is the cause why cleanmgr also ignore the windowsupdate cleanup. I've made a sfc /scannow even if I dubt often about its effectiveness, no problems detected, as well as scandisk (if any corrupted file came).

anyway I tried again start Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase and this tie I reached 100%. Windows folder size slightly reduced. I try more

    Thank you
