Clicking noise on drive and having no access to it

Hi, so i have a problem with my hard drive. My pc starts having this clicking noise and i recently find out that its the drive that is causing it. When I looked in files, my other drive doesn't show how many space i have left and consumed. And i cant access my files in it. It says D:\ is not accessible the parameter is incorrect.

    :)

    Cannot access shared network drive

Personally, I wouldnt use Everyone. If anyone hacks into you, they have full access to everything and can demolish everything on your raid. I would rather set up accounts and access separately for each person. That way, I know who did all that damage. In the end with a little extra work, I feel more secure by using Authenticated Users.

    If this helps.
step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
step 3a remove Everyone from list
step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.

  3. How to Partiton a Hard Drive in Vista

This is a way to get Vista to see another hard drive that is not associated with the OS. There is some times when your new hdd doesn't seem to want to work well with Vista. But, there is a solution in it.

Open the Computer Management By doing these steps.
    • Click on the Start Button
    • Click on Control Panel
    • Click Administrative Tools
    • Double click on Computer Management
You are now in the Navigation panel of the Computer Management.
When in Computer Management, you then have to allow the new drive to be recognized.
    • Double click on Storage
    • Double click on Disk Management
Now in the middle of your screen there is the layout of the Disk Drives that you have. The drives that are partitioned will show by the drive lettering. The others will just show up as having nothing at all in them. Below that there will be the Disk drives that are installed into the computer. You'll see that the primary one will all ways read as "Disk 0". Then you will have Disk 1 and so on. Under the Disks there will also see your CD-Rom drives.. If there is more then one, it will be labeled the same as Disk drives..

On to the Partitioning of the drive in question.
    • Right Click on the drive
    • Click to format the drive or Enable Volume. There will be a series of windows that open up. This is Vista's formatting. Just go threw the windows, and make sure everything is the way you want it to happen.
    • Once the formatting is done, will take some time depending on the drive size.
    • Right click on the drive
    • Click on Mark the Partition as Active
After you have done those steps, The drive will be up and running threw Vista.

    :Side Notes:
If you are not the Administer to the Os, then you will have to enable it..
You may also want to redo the drive lettering of it all. But, I really don't see a reason to do so. If you do, you have to redo drive paths and so forth.. A lot of work on something so small...

Clicking noise on drive and having no access to it

Storage drive is making a semi-regular clicking noise after upgrading to Windows 10

I have a large storage volume which is composed of 4 x 3.5" Seagate SATA hard drives which are spanned into a single drive via Windows disk manager.

Previously I was running Windows 7 but I recently performed a fresh install of Windows 10 on my separate OS drive.

Since I updated to Windows 10, at least one of the SATA drives has been making a semi-regular clicking noise, like the noise which can happen if the disk is seeking heavily or is just powering up.

I do not think that the noise is a sign of damage; rather I think something is causing the click since this only started happening immediately after the OS upgrade.

More details about the click noise:

    • It is always a single click; not a series of clicks or crunches
    • It occurs roughly every 20-30 seconds
    • It seems to occur only after a period of the disk being idle, although I haven't had time to confirm this. Anecdotally, if I'm using the storage volume then I don't hear the regular click. If I leave it alone and don't use the volume for a while (say 15 minutes?) then I start hearing the click.

    Remedies I have tried:

    • Windows Power Settings are already set to "Performance" and the Turn off hard disk after X minutes is set to 0 (i.e. disabled).
    • Used ProcessMonitor to see if any programs are accessing the disk. They are not; at least not as reported by ProcessMonitor, or at least not by its disk label (EClicking noise on drive and having no access to it :)
