    Clicking Power Button in Start up Menu Does Nothing and Other Annoyances


    For some reason, after working perfectly fine for the longest time my power button in the start menu has suddenly stopped displaying my power options.

    I've tried the following with no fix:

    • sfc /scannow
    • DISM commands
    • Safe Boot
    • Signing in with alternate admin user
    • Restarts galore
    • System Restores to when it worked just fine

    What else could I try? I know I can use Win+X to shutdown/restart/etc but this is a bit confusing as I have not done anything new that could have done this. Furthermore, I can't even right click Command Prompt in the start menu and run it as administrator anymore! After digging it out of the System32 folder I've made a shortcut of it so I can run it as admin from the Desktop.

    Feature suggestion: Add right-click menu

    Suggestion: Please add a Windows 7 Jump-List and/or right-click menu to the GPU-Z icon in the Windows taskbar. Possible menus in it would be "Exit" and "About GPU-Z...".
    Maybe also "Switch to tab 1/Switch to tab 2/Switch to videocard 1/Switch to videocard 2" too.
    Examples of programs that have such menus are ICQ, Skype, AIM.

    NOTE: It seems for a right-click menu, Windows 7 is not needed - it works on WinXP and Vista too.
    But even a Windows 7 Jump-list may be good enough.
    What do you think?

    Start Button displaying but not working


    The start button was working until there was a forced reboot (power failure). Then left click (normal click) over the start button does absolutely nothing. Right click brings up a menu but "programs" and also "settings" are missing and not included on this list. Search or Task View buttons do not work either with "normal" click. Does anyone have any suggestion or fixes?

    Only the Power Button Wakes PC from Sleep - Laptop

    • Open the Keyboard control panel item by typing keyboard into Start Menu.
    • Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
    • Click the Change Settings button

      Note: This step requires Administrator access
    • Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that the Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
    • Click OK, and then click OK again.
