I cloned the original HD on my HP 2540p HD WIN7 Pro 64-bit to a larger faster SSD. Worked great. I even purchased and installed Office 13 so that I could work on a few documents for a non-profit where I volunteer. All was going well. I like the small footprint of this little yet powerful HP notebook. Then one morning after a nice rest, I woke up the computer and logged onto the system. To my dismay, the USB ports became unrecognized by WIN7 on the new SSD. So, I worked through all of the more common methods of diagnosing and repairing the USB issue. No luck, so I contact Malwarebytes, thinki

  2. Win7 Pro Upgrade 32 to Win10 Pro 64

    Hello,

I have a PC which originally had Win Vista Business 32-bit, upgraded to Win7 Professional 32-bit, then did a clean install to Win10 Pro 64-bit using the installation media provided on Microsoft's website. I was unable to use my 32-bit keys to activate Win10
Pro 64-bit. After some research, it seems I needed to upgrade from Win7 Professional 32-bit to Win10 Pro 32-bit using Windows Update or installation media, then take that key and write it down and use it later when I do a clean install of Win10 Pro 64-bit.

Before the clean install I used a program to find my product key for Win7 Pro 32-bit and wrote it down. If I wanted Win10 Pro 64-bit it seems I'd have to do another clean install of Win7 Pro 32, upgrade to Win10 Pro 32, then clean install Win10 Pro 64. Instead
of doing this time consuming task, is there some way I can get a key from Microsoft for Win10 Pro 64 bit, provided I have proof of my keys? The PC is currently running Win10 Pro 64-bit and is not activated.

    Thanks

    Dual boot win10 and win7

Lenovo T520 with Win7 Pro installed on msata ssd is Drive C:. HD with data is drive E:. Laptop has dvd but with adapter, this now has another ssd.

I cloned drive C: to the blank ssd in dvd port.

I then removed the msata ssd and rebooted. Win7 came up fine.

Now downloading and installing Wkn10 upgrade to win7 on the new ssd.

Once I have Win10 up and running, plan is to reinstall the msata ssd with Win 7 with view to being able to dual boot Win 7 & 10.

Is there anything else I need to do in order for a menu to appear offering a choice of which OS to boot?

When updates to either system require a restart, will they automatically restart the original OS?

    Appreciate some guidance. Thankz

    Win7 32 bit to Win10 64 bit

    OK, thanks David.

The next question, apparently answered elsewhere, is that the product key I have should be good for both 32 and 64 bit versions. (win 7 pro, upgrade key issued in 2010 from xp 32 bit).

The MS software recovery page tells me the DL I requested is for French (I am in Australia and ordered from Digital River) and then only offers the 32 bit DL.

So where do I DL a 64 bit version of win7 from?

    Thanks,
