Cloned Upgrade SSD does not boot in Windows 10

Few days ago I decided to upgrade my laptop and replace the HDD with a SSD.

I have cloned my Toshiba Equium U400 HDD to Samsung EVO 860 SSD twice: Once with AOMEI Backupper Pro cloning solution and a second time with Macrium Reflect. In both cases, the computer when trying to boot after I replace the HDD with the SDD cannot find the operating system. I noticed in the Disk Management utility that the C drive clone on the SSD is not bootable as the original C drive.

Anyone knows what is the trick to make the SSD C drive clone bootable?

    Info: HDD 160GB Hitachi
    OS: Windows 10 Pro 32
    SSD: Samsung EVO 860 250GB

    :)

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

Part of how I keep my SSD fast is to clone it to a platter drive, then clone back. You just want to make sure that you are only cloning teh used space, and not the empty space.

So, again, I isntall Windows to the ssd. Clone to platter drive, then clone back.

I am not sure why, but if I do not do the clone step, the drive's speed, and windows booting, decreases substantially within a week or so.

I am using a Corsair F60 SSD and a Western Digital 500AAKS as drives, and using the free version of Acronis that WD provides, if any of that matters. I am not sure, at this point.

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

I kinda agree with you, but on a wholr, do not. While I have done things a bit differently than this specific situation, by installing Windows directly to the SSD, and cloning after, my testing shows that there are no issues doing this, very little that can go wrong, provided your system is stable.

There are certain features that must be disabled in this situation, like auto defrag and such, but even with a fresh install to the SSD, you need to take steps to ensure that you SSD performs properly, regardless of how the data got there.

Arming yourself with a bit of knowledge can go a long way.

Installing the latest chipset driver, and the RST Tools, will ensure optimal performance of the SSD. but rather than taking my advice, I suggest the OP takes a look here:

Keep in mind, also, Digibucc, that many retail drives include software and such that very specifically is to be used to ttranser the OS from an existing mechanical drive to an SSD, and if there really was alot fo issues stemming from the cloning process, they would not have packages like that, simply to eliminate tech support costs. While not the optimal option, cloning is NOT a bad thing, as long as you take the nessecary steps.

    Issues booting from cloned ssd

I use a L440 Thinkpad with windows 10. Recently I decided to upgrade my laptop which have a regular HDD. So bought a 480GB Sandisk SSD, mounted that to a caddy. Then replaced my optical drive with that caddy. When I turned on my laptop the SSD showed up
in "disk management". Formatted it with GPT by following the instructions available online. Then cloned the disk using EaseUS Todo backup. Everything is cloned successfully. But unfortunately I cannot boot from the SSD. Even the SSD doesn't show up in the
    boot order.

Following various internet forums tried disabling "Secure boot" and choosing "Legacy only" from BIOS. But nothing works. It is to be noted that both my HDD and SSD are connected. As per instructions I shutdown right after cloning the disk into SSD, but nothing.
Any help regarding how can I boot from SSD?

There are several reasons can lead to cloned disk unbootable. Generally, there are two different situations about how you perform the clone. To make the make cloned drive bootable, you can choose the solutions based on your situation accordingly.
    1. Check the startup settings. Press a specific key, usually Del for desktop and F2 for laptop, to enter BIOS settings. Under Boot tab, make sure the cloned drive is first boot order. If your cloned drive is a GPT disk, make sure the UEFI boot mode is enabled, and if it is an MBR disk, then set it to Legacy boot mode. If your computer does not support UEFI boot mode, you need to convert GPT to MBR before you can boot from the cloned drive.
    2. Startup Repair. If it doesn’t work, you can try Bootrec.exe, which can is available in Command Prompt:
    bootrec.exe

    bootrec.exe /fixmbr

    bootrec.exe /fixboot

    bootrec.exe /scanos

    bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
Or you can create a bootable media, and boot from it to Rebuild MBR.
