Cloned Win10 drive to ssd, bootmgr missing

I used TrueImage 15 to clone and shrink my win10 load to a new SSD.
Original drive was a 1tb with 120g used in a 900g partition. I had TI clone and shrink that to the 240g SSD. However, the bootmgr was left behind.
I used EasyBCD 2.2 to put the bootmgr back but now it seems to be still missing a few secret win10 parts and asking for startup repair..
Can I use the downloaded win10p64 cd?

    :)

  2. New ssd not booting up, please help

    Hello everyone,

I recently bought a new ssd and installed it into my laptop. I then cloned all my data from my old hard drive onto the new ssd. However, when I tried booting up from my ssd, it said bootmgr is missing. I can boot up from my old hard drive just fine, and
the exact same files are on the ssd. My hard drive is unbearably slow to boot up from. Please help.

  3. Strange "C Missing" in Restore window

Results of testing Acronis clone and Image restore.

Boot SSD 1 – verified that there is no C Missing.

Created a second restore point for this drive.

    Wipe SSD 2.

Clone SSD 1 to SSD 2 using Acronis 2016 booted from Rescue USB.

    Boot from SSD 2.

C Missing exists on SSD 2

System Protection turned OFF for C System.

System Protection ON for C Missing.

    Wipe SSD 2.

Image SSD1 to External backup drive using Acronis 2016 booted from Rescue USB.

Restore image from external drive to SSD2 with Acronis 2016 booted from Rescue USB.

    Boot SSD2.

System Protection turned OFF for C System.

System Protection turned ON for C Missing.

    My Results of testing;

Macrium clone creates C Missing folder on cloned drive.

Macrium Image restore does NOT create C Missing on imaged drive

Acronis clone creates C Missing folder on cloned drive.

Acronis image restore creates C Missing on imaged drive.

Turning Protection OFF on C Missing removes it from System Protection window.

Must turn protection on for C System.

These are my results - Others may have different results.

Cloned Win10 drive to ssd, bootmgr missing

If you can get into command prompt via booting into the windows recovery environment, then a simple
    /fixboot
    /fixmbr
    should repair the bootmgr.
Use the win10p64, boot from it, then select system recovery options, and choose command prompt.
type the above listed commands and you should be good to go.

if you need help getting there, use this guide, Its perfect.

    Ah yes.. thats it...
bootsec.exe /fixboot or was it something else the switches /fixboot or /fixmbr belong.
Recovery environment.. that mysterious 45mb partition at the end of disk space. That TrueImage can't clear.
I can access RE via my win10 dvd and all the Tutorial routines are present. The obvious ones still fail to fix the no-boot issue.
For safety sake, during those attempts the SSD was the only drive energized.
At this point I don't think the issue is doing a clone shrink from 900g to 240g with only 123g active. However next I will defrag and see if that helps. But must ensure the recovery partition left on the failed product is gone.

Possible cause is the boot files were not on the drive you cloned to the SSD. And having them disconnected means boot can't find what it needs.

I'd try connecting the other drives and see if it boots okay.

    Yes.
Actually I tried to repair while all 4 were online and lost both 1Tb drives.. The WD is Win10 production and the Seagate is Win10 preview.
Now, Yes I did recover both individually using the Win10 install/repair DVD. Repair startup. They are currently solo booters using bios select, but they are fine that way. Eventually I'll get around to fixing the multi-boot.
Anyway, no amount of tweak has yet made the SSD clone of the production drive boot.
bootrec /scanos, does not find anything to put into the BCDfile.
a nominal visual compare of the C: and the SSD (H*Smile would suggest they be the same..
Last evening I tried Paragon and Acronis Disk Director 12.. while they made nice backups, they were unable to restore/downsize to the smaller SDD. Another pass with TrueImage 15.2 left us in the current state.. no OS found, but 2 nice partitions..
It does appear the the 'recovery' partitions (450mb) while hidden are consuming a drive letter..

From what I gather from Technet, the "boot" folder previously hidden on the system volume (win7) is now hidden in the "recovery" volume (win8 and up).
Historically, our first introduction to the 'recovery' volume was the OEM stash. Now Microsoft has taken it over and still might contain the OEM enhancements.
So the bottom line be I haven't found the proper utility to really clone a win10 disk and have it boot in one pass without lots of excess work.
