  1. Cloned Windows 10 System to SSD and OneDrive stopped updating existing files

Back in July 2020 I cloned the HD system disk on one of my computer to an SSD to improve the performance. Everything worked fine until November when the SSD died. Luckily, I hadn't touched the old HD, so I was able to boot back to that drive. All the important information on that computer was uploading to OneDrive, so all I needed to do was wait for OneDrive to finish syncing to the HD and I'd be back up-to-date with nothing lost... or so I thought.

Once I started checking I found that all the new files that had been added since July were there and up-to-date, but all the files existing beforeJuly and updated afterwards hadn't been updated in the cloud.

For example, say a OneDrive-backed file named fuzzy1.xml existed in July before the clone. This was being updated every day and uploading to OneDrive. In November, after booting back to the HD, OneDrive syncs fuzzy1.xml and the file-date is July, not November. All the July-November updates are gone. The file in the Cloud is also old.

Being somewhat paranoid, I was keeping periodic backups of critical files distinguished with names like fuzzy1-2020-11-06.xml. Those newly-added files were uploaded properly, so I was able to recover. But I've lost a lot of activity in non-critical files I hadn't manually backed up.

What caused this? How do I avoid this problem?

    :)

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

I kinda agree with you, but on a wholr, do not. While I have done things a bit differently than this specific situation, by installing Windows directly to the SSD, and cloning after, my testing shows that there are no issues doing this, very little that can go wrong, provided your system is stable.

There are certain features that must be disabled in this situation, like auto defrag and such, but even with a fresh install to the SSD, you need to take steps to ensure that you SSD performs properly, regardless of how the data got there.

Arming yourself with a bit of knowledge can go a long way.

Installing the latest chipset driver, and the RST Tools, will ensure optimal performance of the SSD. but rather than taking my advice, I suggest the OP takes a look here:

Keep in mind, also, Digibucc, that many retail drives include software and such that very specifically is to be used to ttranser the OS from an existing mechanical drive to an SSD, and if there really was alot fo issues stemming from the cloning process, they would not have packages like that, simply to eliminate tech support costs. While not the optimal option, cloning is NOT a bad thing, as long as you take the nessecary steps.

  3. Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

If that is still insufficient, there is a batch uninstaller for OneDrive available online. I can copy the code here if you need it.

    Windows 10 - OneDrive

This is Windows 10 Pro... Enterprise is an entirely different deal and I'm sure I won't have problems that route, but I'm not forking over more $ to dipshit developers. The only thing I can think of is un-linking my Office 365 accounts within Office, but that defeats the purpose of accessing the files ONLINE and managing them from there. I have two alumni accounts, not a single problem in Windows 7/8 until M$shit devs decided to integrate Onedrive. I've deleted, renamed, set read-only to "msosync.exe," ... but windows continues to add it again and again, and NOW I just noticed it's now linking to groove.exe, instead of onedrive. Sooo fn annoying!

Onedrive on Windows 10 is not an 'app' it is integrated. Plus I don't fool around with the Windows Store thoughtless developer child bullshit. Windows Store ought to be completely removed from the Windows platform all together. Also I do not intend to completely remove Onedrive, it defeats the purpose... the purpose is to REMOVE it from Windows Explorer navigation and startup.
