  2. CLONE, CLONE, CLONE !

    Hello everybody,

Before upgrading, clone your system disk !

I read too many posts from people having upgraded and who cannot rollback with the W10 rollback function.

    If only they haved cloned...

Two solutions are better than one.

Clone a 1 Tb drive to a 512 Mb SSC

    Hi Vaughn,

    You can
clone larger HDD to small SSD
with a professional disk cloning software as long as the used space is smaller than the SSD. You will not worry it will clone the unused space unless you use sector by sector clone mode.

I suggest you to clone your HDD to SSD with AOMEI Backupper, if the used space is larger than the SSD, you can clone only the OS to SSD and keep the HDD as data storage. This software is very easy to operate.

    You can try Macrium Reflect.

Buy an external USB hard drive or a large (64GB or more) flash drive.
Use Macrium Reflect as rpo mentioned to create the backup image.
Use Macrium to also create a rescue disc or flash drive so if you ever need to restore it, you're ready to go.

You cane easily do this with the built-in Windows backup function: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore (Windows 7).

  7. Another option that is quick and easy is Clonezilla. It is also free and works perfectly with Windows 10. I just completed cloning mine and only takes about 15 minutes.

Macrium Reflect is ideal but backup to an Image, it will always be there for you to re-load.

I use it extensively in my support work
