Windows 10: Clover File Manager Alternative

Hello

I have been using a File Manager called Clover here: Clover Brings Chrome-Style Tabs to Windows Explorer. | 易捷科技 EJIE Technology
It is a simple program in that it has Tabs & you can add favorite folders to an access bar at the top.
It worked OK in Windows 8.1, apart from the odd crash.

It is impossible to use it with Windows 10 as it crashes all the time.
Is there something similar that will work with Window 10?

I have ascertained that it is Clover that is causing this, but only at Icon Scaling above 100%. Clover is a 3rd Party program that turns File Explorer into a system with tabs and a bookmark bar for quick folder access. Interestingly, it has control
over the Desktop and Windows 10 "System" menu, which was unexpected. Uninstalling Clover stops the issue, re-installing Clover causes the problem to start again. Clover is nice but the icon scaling is far more important on this 4K monitor system because otherwise
the labels and icons are unreadably small.

 

Amended- Quizo's QTTABBAR (free) works excellently (there are two versions - forked development)

You can have (almost) as many rows of tabs as you like. Many other options e.g. recent files, colouring background of explorer generated windows...

 

Have decided to give this a try. It is very configurable and free. Been updated to work with Windows 10.

This is a late response but there's a solution for the issues on '10:

Explorer—>View—>Options—View Tab— uncheck "Launch folder in a separate process"

If you continue to experience difficulties, launch in '7 compatibility mode and/or disable DPI.

That's it! It's working, again! Yay!

Just re-installed 'QT Tab Bar', on Build 14279; works pretty good; I like the spare real estate by eliminating the navigation pane.
Lots of features!

 

I finally gave up on Clover.
I loved it but it no longer works at all on Windows 10.

Explorer++ for Windows 10 seems fine.
It takes a little bit of tinkering to get it looking right, but it's so far the best alternative to Windows own crappy file explorer.

Tabbed folder browsing is a must if you have been used to having it... and a favorites bar is also a necessity.

Explorer ++ for Windows 10 fits the bill.

It isn't integrated as part of Windows, but just click on it and it runs right away.

Nice- and free.. and you can customise lots of colours too to ease eye strain.

However, although it like others allows it to be set as default file manager, setting sthg as default file manager doesn't mean you are never confronted with explorer or explorer-like open/save dialogues...*Huh

 

Interesting, I used it on 8.1 until I moved to 10, then it was a mess, crashing all the time, well it is discontinued anyway.
I found Xyplorer Free as a replacement, but it is not as nice and simple as Explorer++, I customized the look like this:

I'm not really a fan of tabbed browsing / file exploring -- used to Multi-monitors so no problem opening several instances in different windows on different monitors.

However I would really like a system that can easily display directories / files in groups

Also has a directory list compare and a file compare if you want to compare contents of files too.

Here's an image from DOLPHIN (a Linux File explorer). Bottom image is directory compare.










Clean / easy to see. The directory compare runs from the File manager (Dolphin) Context menu (right Mouse).

Windows file explorer should have something like this easily runnable from within File explorer. It can run by itself too as a stand alone application.

From the context menu its shown as kdiff3. Right mouse clicking on the Directory brings up the context menu.

This thread seems to be almost 3 years out-of-date but hopefully somewhat active.

I'm using Clover with Windows 8.1 and am happy with it. I recently "discovered" it will accept a Chrome theme. That got me wondering if there is a way to use a "userChrome.css" file.

I used one to customize Firefox Quantum. Specifically to allow several rows of tabs across the top (currently Clover just runs off the end). I would like to have this ability in Clover?

Any ideas?

 

Clover does work with Windows 10 by the way. I don't know of any way to customize it with rows of tabs. You might like Q-Dir Portable because you can display 4 windows with multiple tabs open in each.

 

How many rows of tabs would you like?

Quizo's QTTABBAR works well and stably, and allows you to colour the background if off-white gets a bit hard on the eyes.
