CMD crashed while assigning letter and now disk missing from DISKPART

My computer crashed while transferring files. I finally got into recovery and discovered they some how switched letters. So I switch the one labelled C to something else so I can put my boot drive back to C. for some reason this caused Comand prompt to hang and close. Upon getting back into DISKPART the boot drive is no longer visible as a drive. Instead of 3 drives Disk 0, Disk 1, and Disk 2 I now have 2 drives Disk 0 and Disk 2. I have no USB drives as they and the recovery drive are packed and shipped to where I'm moving and I won't see them for 2 weeks, however I need this computer as

Unable To Assign Letter To Disk Partition In Disk Management

    Hi Pradeep

Okay, we will try this the old fashioned way . . .

Close Disk Management and File Explorer, if they are open . . .

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

From the resulting dialog, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run this command and hit Enter:

    diskpart

Run this command and hit Enter:

    list volume

Note down the volume number of that partition (please make sure you have the correct partition)

Run this command and hit Enter (replace x with the correct volume number)

    select volume x

Run this command and hit Enter:

    assign letter=H

    Close Command Prompt

Check in Disk Management if that letter has been assigned . . .

  3. Disk showing in Disk Management, But not DiskPart

    Hello!

So, today I was doing a friend a favor, he had an old 1TB hard drive with important photos on it. He said he would appreciate it if I could move the photos to a different hard drive.

So, I hooked it up to my self-built PC (with a SATA port) and it didn't show up in file explorer.

So, I checked Disk Management to see if it would show up there, and it did. I later realized why it didn't show up in file explorer (Because it didn't have a drive letter). In Disk Management, I right clicked the primary partition only to find that it wouldn't
let me assign a drive letter.

I remembered there was another way to assign drive letters, with DiskPart. So I typed this into Command Prompt:

    diskpart > list volume

In DiskPart, It showed the drive's EFI system partition (partition 1) but not the (Healthy) Primary Partition (partition 2).

Also in DiskPart, I could type "list disk" and it would show me the 1TB drive, if I then typed "list partition" it would show me the different partitions, but wouldn't let me assign a drive letter to them.

In summary, Disk Management showed the partition, but wouldn't assign a drive letter. DiskPart showed the partition 1, but not the primary partition.

My objective is to show the photos located on the 1TB drive's 2nd partition without erasing it.

I would be happy to add pictures if necessary.

    Thanks!

CMD crashed while assigning letter and now disk missing from DISKPART

    Macrium Reflect assigning letters question

When I use diskpart in cmd promt, I only have 2 volumes listed: D for my rewritable dvd drive and C for my OS volume. When I open disk management in windows only C and D is listed. When I open Minitool Partition Wizard, I only have C listed. When I open Macrorit Partition Expert, I only have C listed. But when I open Macrium Reflect 7, I have 4 volumes listed: volume 1, labeled ESP (fat32), is assigned the letter E; volume 4, labeled winretools, is assigned the letter X; volume 5 is my OS and assigned the letter C; and volume 7, labeled PBR, is assigned the letter Y.

Can someone explain why only MR7 shows these assigned letters? I've had Macrium for quite a while and never experienced this before.
