Windows 10: COMM port assignments change after Windows 10 changes version like 2004

I have 2 multifunction adaptors in device manager. Each adapter has 4 COM ports. 2 are RS-232 and 2 are RS-485 ports. One card is set to Bus 7 or 8 depending on the motherboard configuration and the other card shows up as Bus 3. We setup Bus 7 or 8 device 0 to be COM ports 3 and 4, device 1 is COM ports 5 and 6. Bus 3 device 0 are COM ports 7 and 8 and device 1 are COM ports 9 and 10. Not all COM ports are used in most of our machine configurations but sometimes they are all used. The problem is that after a WIndows release update, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909 and now 2004 the COM ports assigned to the perspective Bus and Device numbers change configuration. THis make our software no longer function without re-configuring the COM ports back to our default config. This makes it difficult for our customers to run our equipment without reconfiguring the COM ports and eats up a lot of time from our customer service personnel to remote in and fix the COM ports settings.


My question is how do we prevent a Windows 10 release update from changing the COM port assignments? Is there a way to setup a hardware profile or some sort of INI file we can modify to keep the COM port assignments.


This affects about 100 customers or more 2 times per year that have their systems online and allowing updates.

COMM Ports Change After Setting in Device Manager and Reboot

I am having an issue with Windows 10 resetting my comports after the system reboots. I keep finding information labeled similar to my issue but they only talk about going into device management and setting the COMM Port that I have. I run 4 Arduino's set
on COMM 6, 7, 8, and 9 but after I restart the computer the ports change COMM Position. I then have to unplug and plug the USB ports back in and the COMM assignments correct themselves.

How can I keep the COMM Ports from having this issue?

If you want to change the port settings, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Device manager (right click on start button
   and then on Device manager).
   
2. Then expand port (COMS & LPT).
   
3. Then right click on Prolific USB-to Serial Comm Port and then on properties.
   
4. Go to port settings and click on Advanced.
   
5. You will be able to make the changes on this screen.

Comm ports

Hi - I have a marine navigation system that will only work on COMM port ONE or TWO.

On Windows 7 I have Franson GPS Gate 2.6 doing the virtual comm port job for me.

The question -

1) Is Window 10 still using virtual comm ports?

2) If so does anyone know of a virtual comm port manager like the Franson type gate that'll work with Windows 10 cus Franson won't.

The critical thing is that my GPS Navigator will only work on Port 1 or 2.
