Windows 10: Command can't be executed directly from the Windows 10 search box.

Windows 10 1909 18363.815, keeping the latest update. All hardware is up to date.


I used to run some short commands directly from the search box. For instance, if I type in "ping 8.8.8.8" in the search box and then press enter, a command line window will pop up and run the command. However, recently when I type in the command and tried to press enter, nothing will happen as if the enter key has no function. Clicking on the "open" bottom and nothing will happen either. Clicking on the "Run as Administrator" bottom and a command window seems to pop up and disappears immediately, which is abnormal since the command should run for several seconds.


Also, when I type in "Environment Variables" and press enter, trying to open the SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe, an error message will appear, saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item".

I remembered that several versions before the windows also have this issue, but it was fixed after the 1907 update. What's the problem and what should I do now?

Now check if you are able to find search box.

2. Do you get any error code?



Since this issue can be caused by software conflict or system file corrupted.



I would suggest you to follow the below methods to fix search issue.

Method 1: Try to run search and indexing troubleshooter.

Follow the steps.

  Go to Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.
  
• 
  In the search box, type
  troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Click
  View all, and then click Search and Indexing.
  

Method 2:

I suggest that you reset the Windows Store cache as per the below mentioned steps and check:

• 
  Press Windows key
  and R key together to open the Run Window.
  
• 
  Type wsreset.exe
  and press Enter key for the command to execute.

Windows 10 Search box

Which instructions are you suggesting I missed? There is no search icon. Right clicking the taskbar shows no search option. The "small characters" or icons trick did nothing. The regedit thing:
Follow these steps to turn on the hidden search box:

• Open regedit
• Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
• Inside the search key, create the new DWORD value named EnableSearchBox and set it to 1
• Restart your computer or simply Explorer Shell

Did not give me a search option that I can find.

So in at least MY version of windows 10 there is no search box I can find that will allow me to search my own computer to find possible misplaced files.

So what are the instructions?
