  1. Command prompt states 8gb ram max only , while motherboard specs says 16gb max

So I have a windows 7 home basic activated.....and upgraded it to windows 10 home using the media creation tool.....after everything is done, everything went well....also the windows 10 home I installed is automatically activated idk why...so for that I think ram limit is now set to 128gb instead of 8gb....but sadly, no. I go to command prompt, executed the command wmic memphysical get maxcapacity. Shows only 8gb max. But the motherboard specs says 16gb max, crucial also scanned my pc and says 16gb is the max ram limit. So then I realized, maybe it's because I'm still on windows 7..... I go

    :)

  2. Motherboard specs said that it's maximum ram capacity support is 16gb...but my command prompt says it only supports 8gb...what to do?

So I have the hp p6-2212d pc...and it's got windows 7 home. Well obviously I wanted a windows 10 os so I upgraded to it by media creation tool, nervously waiting. Couple of hours it successfuly upgraded to windows 10 home... And I was thinking of turning this old pc to it's maximum potential...so I was thinking of upgrading gpu, cpu, ram, psu and all that.... But the ram upgrade is what confused me... My command prompt said that the maximum ram capacity support is 8blah blah blah (in kb),

So convert to gb it is 8gb max capacity support. And then my motherboard specs.

(FOXCONN 2ADA 1.00) is saying it supportz 16gb max non-ecc unbuffered ddr3. And yes I have also checked the cpu's max ram capacity and speed support (currently intel i3 2120 and planning to buy i5 2500) so I was thinking which one to believe? I got every pc part to upgrade on cart ready to go.. Just still working on this ram stuff....

What command did you use that reported 8GB max?

After my initial reposnse I suspect the command result is per slot max.

    in Windows 10 Ask Insider
Only Accessing 8gb of 16gb RAM?: TL;DR: I have a full 16gb RAM installed, but Windows only ever seems to use 8gb of it. Why? I've filled up all 4 DIMMs with some memory - 4gb per. Windows 10 identifies all 16gb in Task Manager, but only ever "uses" 8gb of it - never a single byte more. This is despite me...
