  1. Comp will not sleep; icssvc to blame, but how to fix?

    Hi all,

I just recently have started having sleep issues. I put the comp to sleep via either the power button or windows->power->sleep, and while the screen goes blank for a few seconds, the lock screen comes up right afterwards. This all started happening after I used Mobile Hotspot for the first time.

I've tried going to Services and stopping the Internet Connection Sharing Service, but icssvc still seems to be requesting something from the system (see below). Sometimes after a while, icssvc stops showing up in powercfg -requests, and at that point the system will sleep successfully. So, I'm quite sure something about icssvc is the root cause.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Thanks!

    Win 10 Pro v 1607
    Dell Precision M5510
    Intel AC-8260 WiFi

Code: C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg -requests DISPLAY: None. SYSTEM: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) AWAYMODE: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) EXECUTION: None. PERFBOOST: None. ACTIVELOCKSCREEN: None.[/quote]

    :)

  3. Mobile hotspot and sleep mode

    Thank you for answer.

    • I started to use mobile hotspot, which I never did earlier.
    • By pressing power button, but the same issue occurs, when I use start->power->sleep
    • Yes - I wrote that after I use this function I can't turn computer to sleep mode. It is regardless if I have mobile hotspot turned on or not.

I checked internet and used "powercfg -requests" command in cmd. The result is, that after turning on mobile hotspot i have 2 requests:

    SYSTEM:

    [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc)

    AWAYMODE:

    [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc)

I don't know how to disable that. I wish I could make Windows insensitive to this requests. The best solution would be if I could turn the laptop to sleep mode, without turning off mobile hotspot (I know, that in sleep mode it would not working), but if
I had to turn it off before using sleep mode it would be O.K.

    Regards.

    Welcome to the TenForums @countchocula

Windows 10 has a complete Network Reset facility. Might be overkill. I would create a restore point to ensure you can fall back. As well given all the issues people have been having with Restore I might even look into and use Macrium Reflect.

    To get to Network Reset

Click on Start => Settings => Network and Internet

In the window on right scroll to bottom.

This will cause all passwords to be forgotten.

  5. Thanks @Caledon Ken... I'm a bit reticent to nuke my network... want to try to sniff this one out before hitting the red button too quickly... I tried to stop icssvc with the CLI when I was having the problem recently, and came up with this message. Not sure if it gives any more clues...

    Code: C:\WINDOWS\system32>sc stop "icssvc" SERVICE_NAME: icssvc TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS STATE : 3 STOP_PENDING (NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN) WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) CHECKPOINT : 0x0 WAIT_HINT : 0x32[/quote] Thanks,
    Allie

  6. This may lead you to other answers but other than Google searches not sure what. Interesting that it states not stoppable, nor pausable and to ignore shutdown.

If you check out the option in Powercfg you maybe able to override for sleep purposes.

  7. One further update with some info... I still haven't managed to lick this problem, but look at what I get when I turn mobile hotspot on and off a few times:

Code: C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg -requests DISPLAY: None. SYSTEM: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) AWAYMODE: [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume6\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (icssvc) EXECUTION: None. PERFBOOST: None. ACTIVELOCKSCREEN: None.[/quote] icssvc seems to have gone full zombie, and is hanging on something. Mobile hotspot is creating new processes as needed... I updated wifi drivers, chipset drivers, etc, but that hasn't changed the behavior at all...

Well you are determined and that is a good quality.

If you don't want to do the full Network reset you could try the network trouble shooter that uninstalls adapter and then re-installs.
