  1. Compaq cq 57 lost wifi ability after windows 10 update

The other day we found my moms old Compaq Presario CQ57. So I have it now bringing it back to life. While it doesn't have a super fast CPU, I ordered 8gb ram and a SSD for it last night. Hopefully it will speed this thing up considerably even tho the CPU isn't great. It will work for what I need it for tho.

I spent around 6 hrs yesterday trying to get the wifi to turn on with no luck after upgrading to Win10. Tried a few different drivers, nothing, then eventually went back and installed the original Win 7 driver that was on the HDD.

I found these files in c:\swsetup folder. At least on this laptop, that seems to be where all the HP drivers/software is stored.

I update the BIOS also from HP to F.42 I believe it is.

So I went and poked around in the bios.

There are only a few settings we can change in the bios, nothing that appeared really useful for this issue.

However, I went and turned on the boot option to boot from network adapter. Now I have no way to actually boot this way, so I turned it back off.

While exiting the bios setup I clicked on "load setup defaults" on the bios menu, saved and rebooted.

To my surprise when the laptop booted I immediately noticed the amber light turned back to white "airplane mode off", and wala, my wifi came back on?!?!

There was nothing in the bios for "load setup defaults" that looked any different than what was already set because like I mentioned, there are only a few settings in bios that we're allowed to change.

I read about every thread found yesterday for this issue and like many, NONE of them had any effect.

I am not really sure what the "REAL" fix was, but figured I would post this as an option when nothing else seems to work, like in my case here.

Many of the suggestions mentioned on other threads pointed toward entering bios and ensuring the wifi adapter setting is not turned off, but the bios on this laptop doesn't have a option to do that "other than booting from network adapter".

Maybe me and others are just having a ghost in the bios lol and for some reason setting it to load setup defaults did the trick.

    :)

I recently upgraded my computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Everything went well except that there was no keyboard driver for my Compaq Presario CQ 70 Notebook PC. Are there other compatible drivers available
