Windows 10: Compressing dynamic range for music in Windows Media Player 12.0?

Are there any free (not just a free trial or anything like that, but actually FREE) software programs or plug-ins that I can use for compressing the dynamic range while playing music CD's on Windows Media Player 12.0 on Windows 10 on my new Dell Inspiron 3880 desktop PC? I would very much appreciate any help, because the loudest parts of some of the stuff that I play are just way too loud, but the softest parts are just way too faint. THANKS very much for any helpful suggestions.

Music CD's won't play on Media Player 12

Media Player 12 does not recognize the codec for my cd's when I load they are loaded and the play list generated.

This is the error message I received:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I checked the list of codecs so this shouldn't be an issue.

I suggest you to sync iTunes with Windows Media Player and check if it helps.

Follow the steps below to sync iTunes with Windows Media Player

• Double-click on the Windows Media Player icon.
• Right-click inside the toolbar at the top of Windows Media Player. Click "File" and "Manage Libraries."
• Right-click inside the toolbar at the top of Windows Media Player. Click "File" and "Manage Libraries."
• Click "Add." Add the library where your iTunes music is stored to Windows Media Player. This is the directory that was selected when iTunes was initially installed. Click "OK." iTunes and Windows Media Player will be synced.
