Windows 10: Compressing folders in C/ ?

Hello, with the new update i barely have any space on my C disk so i was wondering whether or not it would be safe to compress some folders found in C/Windows or C/ProgramData or in general folders in Windows 10 in order to save spaceWindows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.5487

I have followed your steps to no avail. New folders and already existing folders are still compressed even though the C: that option is unchecked.

As you may already know, if this feature is on, every new folder/file you add starts off automatically compressed. If you would like to turn it off for the whole drive, kindly follow these steps:

• Start File Explorer . In the left pane, right-click on the drive that you would not want to be compressed.
• Click Properties.
• Make sure that the Compress this drive to save disk space box is unchecked.
• Click OK then Apply.

No option to compress folder

1. How exactly are you trying to compress the folder?

Follow these steps to check if that helps.

1. Locate the file or folder that you want to compress.

2. Right-click the file or folder, point to Send to, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder.

A new compressed folder is created in the same location. To rename it, right-click the folder, click Rename, and then type the new name.

If the issue persists then Perform
System File Check (SFC), and then check if this fixes the issue.

Follow the steps:

SFC scan:

1. Press Windows logo + X.

2. Select command prompt admin.

3. Type ‘sfc /scannow’ (without quotes) and press enter.

4. Restart your computer.
