Computer acts strange after going to sleep closing lid

I am having a problem with my laptop. Its an Asus Zenbook on Windows 10.

The issue is often not always, but frequently after I close the lid and the laptop goes to sleep whether it be for 10 min or overnight this causes problems.

    The main problems are:

1 When I wake up all my windows are closed. I'm not sure if the computer just closes everything or just restarts but everything I am working on is gone. You can imagine this is frustrating. this happens a lot overnight in particular.

2 When I wake it up the wi-fi doesn't work. This is especially if I put it to sleep while the VPN is on Express VPN. When I wakeup the wifi will be connected but say no internet connection or something like that and I need to completely stop the VPN and restart it to get it to work again and this process can be time consuming.

I am not sure why this is happening but any help you might offer would be greatly appreciated. I am sure the fix to this is simple but I just dont know it

    Thanks!

    :)

  3. Laptop keeps restarting after going to sleep (when the lid is closed).

    Hi Craig,

It's possible that your lid close action is configured to shut down your computer. To make sure your settings are properly configured, you can refer to the steps below:

    • Right-click on the Start menu, then choose Control
      Panel.
    • Change the View by: option on the upper-right-part of the screen to Small icons.
    • Choose Power Options.
    • Select your power plan (e.g. High Performance), then choose Change plan settings.
    • Click Change advanced power settings.
    • Go to Sleep settings, then disable hybrid sleep.
    • Under Power Buttons and Lid, check if
Sleep is chosen as action when lid is close.
    • Hit Apply and OK.

If the lid close action is set to Sleep, we suggest checking if your drivers are up-to-date. When it comes to sleep mode issues, the driver related are network, chipset, and BIOS drivers. To update your drivers, you can refer to this

We look forward to your response.

Win 10 - computer won't lock or sleep when lid is closed

    Hi Shari,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

Please follow the methods mentioned below:

    Method 1: Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows Key + X.

    • Select on Control Panel.

    • Click on Power Options. On the left, click on "Choose what closing the lid does". Click on the drop down menu for "When I close the lid" and choose "Sleep" or "Hibernate.

Method 2: I suggest you to run in-built Power troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps:

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Click on Control Panel.
    • Select Troubleshooting on the left pane, click on
      View All.
    • Click on Power to run the troubleshooter.

Method 3: If the above method doesn’t help, I would suggest you to
reset and restore all of the default Power Plans back with their default settings. Follow the steps.

    • Press Windows Key + X.
    • Select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • At the command prompt, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, and then press
      ENTER.
    • At the command prompt, type exit to exit the Command Prompt window.
    • Restart the computer and check with the issue.
Let us know if the issue is resolved or if you require further assistance.
