Windows 10: Computer Always Crashes During 20H2 Update.

Greetings!


I'm having trouble installing the 20H2 update, and I'm hoping for some guidance or solutions. My computer, that originally came with Windows 7 but was changed to Windows 10 years ago, keeps trying to update to 20H2 from 1909, and it fails every time during the second restart. It will download the update with no problems, and then go through the 'preparing' process of the install and get through the first restart, but when it attempts the 2nd restart, it does a hard crash at about the 2% mark. When I turn my computer back on, it shows 'Undoing Changes Made to This Computer' on the bottom of the screen, and then reverts back to the previous version of Windows1909. The error messages I was getting are: 0xc1900101, 0x800704c7, 0x80070652 and 0x80242016. I tried using the Media Creation Tool that I found in this forum, and the update failed at the very same spot. I tried uninstalling my Avast anti-virus and then using the Media Creation Tool, and it failed again at the same spot during the second restart. After failing with the Media Creation Tool, and after my computer went through the 'undoing changes' portion of the startup, there was a pop-up that appeared on the desktop that hadn't appeared after all of the previous attempts to update to 20H2. The pop-up had a message that said 'Failed in SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation', along with the error code 0xc900101-0x2000C. Not sure what that means, but I'm still not updated.


Not sure what to try now to get it updated. I really didn't want the update, but there's a yellow warning triangle that keeps appearing in my taskbar that says my version of Windows is expiring and that I need the update. Plus, the 20H2 update is interfering and keeping other updates from downloading and getting installed, so if I can get this resolved I'm sure my computer will be happier.

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

20H2 should not be installed right-away on your device - MS said the rollout is only to a fraction of users and would be labeled as an optional update initially. Are you enrolled in WIP?

W1zzard is asking you to test so that he can suggest next steps and be able to troubleshoot the issue you have.
If another version works, it would be one set of steps.
If several other versions also fail/crash, then it would be another.
