Also applications in office products worked fine but now are useless

Hello,

My computer appears twice in my network.

I've had a problem with my start menu (i wouldn't open) so i repaired my installation by installing windows 10 and keeping al my settings. Now my computer appears twice in my network. I've tried a lot of things. Rebooting my router. Put the router back in
factory default. Flushing my DNS. Changing the name of the computer only made another name appear and not deleting any of the old computers.

I have an fixed ip for this computer and i put it back after resetting the router.

How can i get rid of the extra computer? Both are completely accessible btw.

Help?

From the description provided, I understand that a computer is listed twice in Network view

I would suggest you to follow the below referred methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1:

It is possible that the names of the computer are same on the local network. You may try renaming the computer name.

The issue can occur for one of two reasons:

- You actually have two machines on the network with the same name

- One of the computers has the same name as the name of the workgroup

a. Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.

b. In the command prompt type in “nbtstat –n” and it’ll show you a conflicting workstation if there is one.

Make sure to look at the one for network connection you are currently using, i.e. Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection and check.

You can rename a computer by following the below steps -

a. Right-click on the computer icon on the desktop or computer in the start menu.

b. Click on Properties and check for the section Computer name, workgroup and domain settings.

c. Now under this section click on Change settings and then under theComputer Name tab you can change the computer name. Click on Apply and then OK.

Method 2:

The problem may also arise due to some old network adapter settings–

a. Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
b. In the command prompt type in “devmgmt.msc”

b. Click on View and choose Show Hidden devices.

c. Now scroll down to Network Adapters and right click to uninstall.

d. Reinstall the driver for the Network Adapter and check.

External disk appearing twice in Explorer

Hope someone can help me.

I have 2 external disks - labelled M & N which I use for backups.

When they are connected however, they appear twice in Explorer

This is very confusing especially as they are listed so close to each other - as N can appear above M! When expanded it is even more confusing.

Right clicking doesn't appear to offer any solutions to hide the "extra" entry. As I don't know what this effect is called, Googling is just about impossible.

Can anyone suggest why they are appearing twice, and whether I can hide the second entry.
