Windows 10: Computer asking for password

About 2 months ago I turned on my computer and it was asking for an administrator password. I don't have one so I put it in the too hard basket and kept using my ipad instead. Now I have just turned my laptop on to see if it has the same message but instead in the middle of the screen is a blue box saying Enter Password. The rest of the screen is black. I entered the only password that has ever been used on the computer but it came back say ing Invalid Password. Please help. Thankyou

Reset forgotten/lost main user password in Linux Mint - Linux Mint Community
You can reset your password following the next steps:

• Reboot your computer / Turn your computer on.
• Hold down the Shift key at the start of the boot process to enable the GNU GRUB boot menu (if it does not show)
• Press ESC at the GNU GRUB prompt.
• Press e for edit.
• Use the Arrow keys to highlight the line that begins with kernel and press the e key.
• Go to the very end of the line and add rw init=/bin/bash
• Press Enter and then press b to boot your system.
• Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.
• Type in passwd yourusername
• Set your new password.
• Restart your system.

 

Bitlocker not asking for password set up

I have the same problem as David with bitlocker set-up not asking me for a password. Following the instructions in the article suggested by Jennifer does not help as it assumes that I will be prompted to enter a password - the set up skips that step going
straight to the options for saving the recovery key. Once (supposedly) encrypted, I can restart my computer without having to enter anything apart from my microsoft password so I do not have any additional security at all.

 

Installed Bitlocker does not ask for password on computer start-up!


I have managed to solve the issue thanks to the terrific guys here on these forums.

For anyone else who is ever in the same boat, step 5 on this page is what you need to do. As it states, you need to unencrypt your hard-drive, then configure the settings in step 5, and then encrypt your drive again.

Now it asks me for a Bitlocker pin number whenever I start-up my computer.

THANK YOU to everyone for your incredible assistance. I have enjoyed far more knowledgeable folk and superior support here than I have ever seen on Microsoft's lousy forums where their own staff have little idea about the products they supposedly specialise in. It's a real pity that, now that we are even into version 10 of Windows, even the simplest of steps is made into a headache that can take 10+ hours to resolve. For the life of me, I don't know why Bitlocker can't just ask you "would you like to set-up a password when you start-up your computer?" instead of having to go into the deeper recesses of the operating system's configuration options and taking 25 steps to be able to so.
