Windows 10: Computer can't recognize any audio devices

For a while now my computer running on Windows 10 has an audio problem. On the taskbar the audio icon is crossed out with the text 'No speakers or headphones are plugged in.' I've tried troubleshooting the audio and the 'Get Help' app told me that there's a problem with the drivers though it can't fix it. I tried uninstalling the drivers in Device Manager but it didn't help. I can't roll them back either. The headset works on my laptop also Windows 10 though not on this PC. I tried plugging in a Speaker setup but it also wasn't recognized. I tried looking for help in many forums but seemin

Windows Recognizes My Headset As a USB Audio Device (Speakers)

If the headset works fine on other devices:

• Check to make sure your audio devices haven't been disabled
  
• Run the audio troubleshooter
  

• Make sure your audio device has been set as the default device
  
• Try different audio formats
  

• Check if the audio driver is compatible with your device or not. Download and install one from the official website of the device manufacturer if necessary, or use the generic audio driver that comes with Windows

In addition, try to disable Front Panel Jack Detection and enable Multi-stream Mode, if applicable to your device.

Windows not recognizing motherboard audio device

If the HD Audio device only appears in Device Manager as a Hidden Device (it displays with a transparent icon) then, yes, Windows is not detecting the device. Could be the chip failed. But here's a trick that sometimes works....

HD audio connects like this:Windows <===> HD Audio Controller <=======> HD Audio Device
Your HD audio device connects downstream to an Audio Controller. Sometimes the controller needs to be reset.

Look in Device Manager under System Devices. Do you find a device named something like "High Def Audio Controller" or "Realtek HD Audio Controller"?

• If not there, it's the controller that failed
• If you find the HD audio controller:
  • Right click it, select Uninstall. If asked, do not choose to delete driver files.
  • Reboot. The driver will reinstall and the audio controller will attempt to re-detect the HD audio device. Does it find it this time?

If that doesn't work, i'd also check if any BIOS updates.

 

Audio Problems

Hi there SimonWildZX, I will be your Independent Advisor for today, I hope we can both resolve your problem.

May I suggest to completely uninstall all Audio drivers listed in the Device manager including the headset. Please make sure to completely remove.

Here is how to do it.

Here the steps to completely remove a Device off your computer.

Step 1. Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.

Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound and Audio devices. Right-click the problematic device and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.

Step 5. Reboot the computer.

Repeat the steps in all the Audio devices listed.

Then reboot. then test the headset again.
