Windows 10: Computer crashed, can't boot up. Error message : oxc000000f

I have an acer aspire TC-705 that I recently purchased. It's specs are:
Intel i5 quad core processor 3.2 GHZ
16G RAM
1 Tb HDD
Win 10 home

I was online and just clicked to close the browser when a error message flashed across the screen and the computer shut down. I tried to reboot with my win 10 repair disk to no avail.

I then used my usb recovery drive and it booted up and went through the installation process but when it came to the first re-boot it started over from scratch. I tried several times but it is in an endless loop.

Over the next three days I tried every option that was available on screen but nothing worked. I then went to the command prompt and ran the scan and repair utility. It scanned but was unable to make the repairs. (it would be nice if these utilities would provide some details)

I did get a message that said there was a driver missing from the DVD drive Error message : oxc000000f which explains why my repair disk couldn't boot up. It woul start but as soon as it left the bios it stopped.

Another message said that if nothing worked the hard drive may be damaged so I bought and installed a new HDD but that didn't help either, so my question is Where do I go from here?.

My Windows 10 work very slow and get stuck. It had 100 percent Windows Update download. But installing got stuck.

Windows 10 endless loop reboot

I've Had widows 10 on the computer quite some time now. Recently it will not quite boot up. It gets to the desktop for less then a minute the crashes with a blue screen with an error message that I can't read because it is on the scree less than a second.
Then it starts the reboot. I can't use the OS at all before it crashes.

I boot from a disk I made on another computer from the windows installer download, This is where the only option that works on the repair section is the command prompt. The reinstall and save files option comes up with the error disk locked. unlock it and
try again, I have tried several things that I have found on the web but nothing has worked.

How old is this computer ? If the HDD was bad, it should have been under warranty. You still have a Toshiba M10 list under your system specs.

On an acer Aspire, as soon as it powers up but before you see acer welcome screen, continue to hit Alt+f10 until you should get to the mfr's recovery drive which will reset the computer to the day you bought it. This means you'll lose your files and installed programs but you'll have the computer back to Day One. You should also have other options in the Recovery Console, like use System Restore (if you created any recent points) or Reset & keep files too. That is a Boot Error. Get a copy of Linux Mint and run as a Live DVD to run the S.M.A.R.T. test. Most likely either your MBR or partition is hosed or your drive is going bad. SSD's are super cheap these days. Also Mono Price has a good deal on "Pulled" 2 TB hard drives, which are drives from stock that never got purchased by retail or leasing program. So you are basically getting a $150 drive for around $45.

Otherwise setup a ticket with Acer and have them send you a box to ship it back if you do not have one and they will replace the hard drive under the warranty. It is very unusual for a drive to go bad this soon, but it can happen.

 

Thanks for the info. I will try the reset. As for the age of the computer I bought it about 3 weeks ago but it was a refurb so the HDD could have been bad but replacing it did not change anything.
Ironically I threw out a copy of linux mint 17 a couple of months ago. I wanted to try something besides ubuntu but it did not provide a way to switch the mouse buttons.

 

Do not do the reset. If it is a Refurb, the drive could have been one that met the minimum requirements. That is why I always pull drives from Refurb's and put in a new one. You should always keep a copy of Linux Mint laying around just for these kind of cases. I have the Samsung 850 Evo 3D 120gb in my wife's machine. It runs faster than the old Crucial M500 240gb that I had in it. The only thing that is on the drive is OS and programs needed. Everything else is stored on a Synology NAS with a 3TB Fantom eSATA/USB 3.0 external for extra storage. Having all of the documents, etc on the NAS means that if we lose the drive, we are not losing important data.

 

Something I forgot to mention is that after I ran all the aforementioned repair options they became unavailable along with the ability to boot from usb. I can now only access the bios. when I boot up now I get the message:
" Reboot and choose the proper boot medium or insert the proper media and press a key"
The proper medium is already there. Pressing a key only creates another copy of the same message.

The techs from the acer forum have had me do about every change there there is in the bios but nothing changes.

 

That particular error code seems to go hand in hand with an issue where the HDD is unreadable. If you can get a copy of Hiren's, boot to that, get into Mini-XP and run CHKDSK on that drive. Your HDD may be coming up as RAW, so the Bootloader can't be read. a CHDSK might fix it.

The error occurs during a Win 10 update or fresh install:

Sounds like it may be a bad drive. Hiren's or the Linux Live DCD will allow you to run a S.M.A.R.T. check.

 

This is a brand new drive installed after all options failed.
As I said before both my DVD drive and my usb ports are inaccessible. Unless Hirams' boot is something you wear to kick the computer it won't change anything.

 

I want to thank everybody who advised me but at this point I think we are at a dead end.
I bought the computer 18 days ago so I am going to use my warranty.

 

You may be able to use the ToDo Workstation Backup to try and do a sector by sector rescue of the data on the drive. That way if you have files on it, you can pull them, then try and wipe the drive before shipping back if any private data was on it.

If it is a Hybrid drive, which uses a small sized SSD partition to help speed up transfers to the platters, even that could have caused this issue. Make sure when you box it, you put on paper your return address and name, phone number, email and also what the exact issue is. The reason for the address is that if the address label gets damaged, your info is still with the computer. Just slip in a plastic bag and attach to the case.

Also get everyone's name that you talk to and keep for your records in case they take longer than they promised, so that you have a record to know who may have dropped the ball.

My Media PC is on a Seagate laptop-sized Hybrid Drive. It's the best HDD I have. I've had it since I sold my iPhone 4 and updated to a 4S, which was 2010 or early 2011? It's extremely fast as HDDs go.

I just thought of something though, that drive has Windows 8 (original, not 8.1) installed, and is the system I used when working in the 8 forums. After 8.1 I refused to update, so my knowledge didn't apply to 8.1. Except for this: iOS 8, er, I mean Windows 8 introduced different ways for Windows to boot. IN the case of my Hybrid Drive, the actual BOOT partition is on an EIDE drive that has Windows 7 installed. When I installed 8, it put the boot loader on the Windows 7 drive for some reason. This happened when I had only 2 drives on the system, now I have 6, but it has never changed. Sometimes my Hybrid falls off SATA bus, but my Boot Options Menu still comes up and I can choose Windows 8, although it will not load. Maybe a variation of this is happening here.

If he has a boot partition that might contain a corrupt or different Win10 install, could be causing it. Anyway, glad there is a warranty option.
