Windows 10: Computer crashes when using Realtek RTL2832U dongle

I have been using the Realtek RTL2832U dongle in order to have SDR using SDRSharp to listen to the International Airband - aircraft. After 20 minutes or so of running SDRSharp, the computer completely shuts down as if a power cut had happened. Is this a Windows problem, as has been mentioned in other forums? Any help would be appreciated.

I have to agree with you about wasting of time. Everybody is giving a solution none works. Lost more than 10 hours doing what everybody says.

This worked for me in 2 different pcs.

Plug in the tv tuner. Windows installs 2009 driver. I setup 2012 driver. Windows changes back to 2009 driver. I rolled back and checked box that says the newer installed driver did not work. 2012 came back and stayed up. Installed preston pvr and works fine.

I dont want to spend any more time even for checking if solution is allready up. Hope someone find this usefull.

I had the same problem in windows 10 drivers installed but no channels found on channel scan.

Then i realised you need to install direct x 9 or higher and net framework 3.5.

This works perfectly now in windows 10 x64 on both my pc's

When your machine comes back open reliability history and see what it is recording in terms of events.

Type Reliability History into Cortana Search and click on app.

Do you have any tools to monitor heat, particularly the CPU.

Did as you said. Problem may be an outdated driver, so have contacted manufacturer for help. Many Thanks.

 

So did reliability history indicate what issue your machine is experiencing. A machine shutting down sounds like heat. A bad driver usually causes dreaded BSOD.

 

I installed CPUID and compared various programs that used the Realtek RTL2832U dongle. All excluding SDRSharp (SDR) remained temperature stable for over 10 mins. Running SDRSharp the temperature rose 30 degrees in two minutes so shut it down. Could you suggest a solution Please?

 

I see you have a desktop so "Cooling" is where you have to go.

Open case, check heat sink, they can become quite furry over time. Check airflow in and out making sure cabling is neat and out of the way. I use compress air. Gentle hold fan blades when blowing so they don't spin.

Not sure how you feel about taking things apart. Thermal paste can become old. It is simple enough to replace but some folks just say no thank you.

If you were to do this you remove cooler, clean both surfaces with pure alcohol, apply paste and re-assemble. Now you might decide to upgrade cooler. There are lots of videos on cleaning and applying paste. Videos will specify type of alcohol and you want a lint free cloth. Be patient and gentle.
