Windows 10: Computer freezes with Grey screen while using - Windows 10

For no reason and in any screen; browser, Office Products, email, etc. my computer will suddenly lock-up, have a gray (ghost) screen with a cross that looks like it is composed of 2 jelly beans. I cannot get out of this screen even when I Ctl+Alt-delete to try and get to Task Screen (sometimes I try 20+ times); it will bring me to the Task Screen, but I still am locked out of being able to do anything, then suddenly I will be able to make a selection on Task Manager OR the screen will revert back to being usable. This is a random occurrence, no rhyme or reason and I have had the memory expanded from 4 GB to 8 GB and it still occurred. The only other way to exit this malfunctioning screen is to shut the laptop cover.


I have an HP15 and am running Windows 10/Version 1803 with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016. I have had a computer specialist look at this issue but he was never able to replicate the problem and he suggested increased memory. He found the hard drive to be in good shape and no malware or virsus on the computer. Any suggestions?

Friends computer freezing at windows loading screen

Ok my friend is having problems with his computer right now. Basically it crashed on the windows loading screen. This is what he told me on MSN.

Now i'm not too sure what the problem is. I suggested doing a repair install with the xp disk (i'll be giving him that tomorrow) but in the mean time do any of you have any ideas?

I had already tried turning off fast startup, to no avail.
Will look at the list you provided, thanks. Hard to do when computer freezes on the Windows loading screen though. *Biggrin
