Windows 10: Computer gets stuck going to sleep (and shutting down) sometimes

Randomly my Windows 10 computer will get stuck while going into sleep mode. The monitor shuts off and the hard drive will stop making noise except now and then, but all lights and fans keep running and it never actually shuts off even if it's left all night. The last things in Event Viewer before I crashed it were just a "SetSuspendState" event and a defragmentation successful message, no errors or anything. I couldn't look up anything about this because pretty much all the results were for computers getting stuck waking up from sleep mode, and the few relevant results had few and unhelpful answers.

The bizarre part is that this is a recent occurrence, but months ago I had this randomly happen numerous times while it was going into hibernation mode, so I ended up disabling that and only using sleep, which worked just fine. But now it's doing the same thing? Fortunately it's rare but I would like to know how to stop it. It does not seem to be related to how much memory or cpu is being used when the sleep command is given, is all I've been able to determine.

Additionally, I recently had a situation where it got stuck on the "shutting down" screen, a similar situation with no HDD activity, but this time the monitor stayed on with the spinning circles. Can anyone please give any ideas what I could do to fix this? And yes, fast boot is off.

Windows 10 - my computer shuts down instead of going to sleep

My computer just started shutting down rather than going to sleep. This happens if I put the computer in sleep mode, or if I just step away for the computer for 20 minutes (the length of time I have set for it to go into sleep mode) -- in both cases the
computer completely shuts down and all the windows or documents I had open are closed.

It's an ASUS, Windows 10.

I saw some questions about this and tried their suggestions - I checked my Power & Sleep settings, they are all correct. I also followed multiple pages' advice to remove the Intel Management Engine Driver (because it was likely outdated) and download the
most recent version. The only problem is, once I've downloaded the new version, my computer says that it's "not supported." The version I downloaded was "Intel Management Engine Driver for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10" which says it's compatible with Windows
10 and 64-bit operating systems, which mine is. Any advice about where to go from here?

 

Desktop Shutting Down Instead of Going to Sleep

After the recent Windows 10 update, April 2017, my computer started shutting down instead of going to sleep. My settings have not changed and are still set to go to sleep after 15 minutes. When the computer was updating it did get stuck on a reboot. I had
to shut it down manually and restart it. After I did that I rechecked for updates and it said my computer is up to date.

Computer shuts down instead of going in to sleep mode

Since two weeks my Dell laptop is shutting down every time when:

• Closing the laptop
• Pressing the power button short
• Manually via the Start Menu

All these options are set to Sleep Mode and not Shut Down.
