  3. Computer is adding a lot of shortcut folders, in every USB drive that I plug in. All shortcuts point to cmd32.

    Hi C w e,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It sounds like your computer might be infected by a virus or malware that creates shortcut folders on your USB drive and points them to cmd32. This could be a serious security risk for your data and system.

Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan. This will help detect and remove any viruses or malware that may be causing this issue. Virus & threat protection in Windows Security - Microsoft Support

You can also try to delete the shortcut folders manually using the command prompt, but be careful not to delete any important files or folders. Here are some steps you can follow:

    1. Plug in your USB drive and note its drive letter (for example, FComputer is adding a new folders, in every USB drive that I plug in :).
    2. Open the command prompt by pressing Win+R and typing cmd in the Run dialog.
    3. Type F: (or your USB drive letter) and press Enter to switch to your USB drive.
    4. Type attrib -h -r -s /s /d . and press Enter to remove the hidden, read-only, and system attributes from all files and folders on your USB drive.
    5. Type del *.lnk and press Enter to delete all shortcut files on your USB drive.
    6. Type exit and press Enter to close the command prompt.
To prevent future infections, make sure to keep your antivirus software and operating system up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates. Avoid plugging in unknown or suspicious USB drives into your computer.

I hope this helps you fix your problem. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

USB drive not detected in Windows Explorer when plugged in

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

It’s really strange to see that the D Drive is not showing up in file explorer, even though it’s listed under disk management and you are able to open D drive using the navigation bar.

In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these methods and check if that fix the issue.

Method 1: Restore File explorer to default.

    1. Open File explorer and click on View.
    2. Select on Options and click on Change folder and search options.
    3. Select on View tab and click on Restore Defaults.
    4. Click on OK and re-plug the USB and check.

    Method 2: Registry change

    1. Press Windows + R key to launch Run command. Type Regedit and click Ok.
    2. Navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
    3. On the right pane look for D drive, right click on it and delete.
    4. Restart the PC and then re-plug the USB to check.

    Method 3: New user account

This issue may be due to a profile corruption. Hence, in order to eliminate possibilities, I would suggest you to create a new user account. Follow the steps from the article
Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
to create a new user account.

If issue persists, update chipset and storage drivers from

    HP manufacturer website
    .
