  2. DeviceSetupManager Errors (Event IDs 131, 200, 201 & 202)

Hello, Googling this issue seemed a lot more common a few years back, including on this forum. I am getting the same errors and warnings every time I boot my PC, and whenever I click on ' Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers'. Error 131 says: "Metadata staging failed, result=0x80004005 for container '{BCEFC89E-D3A5-523C-8AFE-1FCBE940E186}'" Warning 200 says: "A connection to the Windows Update service could not be established." Warning 201 says: "A connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS) could not be established." Warning 202 says: "The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet." I'm not even sure if this error is on my side or on Microsoft's side, is anyone else seeing these errors? Changing the time sync server didn't fix it. And changing the 'DeviceMetadataServiceURL' under 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Device Metadata' from it's default of "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=252669&clcid=0x409" to "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=252669&clsid=0x409" or "http://dmd.metaservices.microsoft.com/metadata.svc" did not fix it either. Although all above links lead to an HTTP ERROR 400 page for me, so hey don't seem to work. Thanks for any help! -Windows 10 Education 21H1 64-bit

  3. DeviceSetupManager Errors (Event IDs 131, 200, 201 & 202)

It is written on the internet that it was seen in some people after an update in December, but I could not find a solution.
I tried clean installation, reset etc. It gives the same error.

    DeviceSetupManager Errors (Event IDs 131, 200, 201 & 202)

Warning 200 says: "A connection to the Windows Update service could not be established."
Warning 201 says: "A connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS) could not be established."
Warning 202 says: "The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet."
Error 131 says: "Metadata staging failed, result=0x80072EFE for container '{9D4B63A4-C1E9-5EDF-9B1D-FCDB8ED9F48C}'"

Should I care? Does it affect performance? I wanted to ask because I didn't know :/ Thank you

There is no problem in the security and maintenance tab

    DeviceSetupManager Errors (Event IDs 131, 200, 201 & 202)

    Hello erhanercan

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

The screenshots you provided show logs from Event Viewer in Windows and show various warnings and errors from DeviceSetupManager with Event IDs 131, 200, 201 and 202. It looks like you encountered these errors after an update and tried several troubleshooting steps, including a clean install and cloud reset, but the errors persist.

The warnings and error messages you see generally indicate internet connectivity issues, as well as problems connecting to Windows services required for updates and metadata services. Event ID 131 with result code 0x80072EFE specifically indicates connection failure to Windows Update servers.

Although these events may seem related, if they are isolated events they may not affect your system's performance. However, if they occur frequently, they may be a symptom of underlying problems with your system's ability to receive and process updates, which can affect the system's security and performance over time.

Here are a few additional steps you can consider:

Check System Date and Time: Make sure your system's date and time are set correctly, as incorrect settings can cause problems with Windows Update.

Network Troubleshooter: Run the built-in Windows Network Troubleshooter to detect and try to fix network-related problems.

Windows Update Troubleshooter: Use this tool specially designed to troubleshoot Windows Update related issues.

Check for Malware: Run a thorough antivirus scan. Malware can sometimes interfere with system processes and cause such errors.

Check Proxy and VPN Settings: If you are using a proxy server or VPN, try disabling it and connecting directly to see if the problem persists.

Review Additional Logs: Look for relevant errors in Event Viewer that may provide more context or information about the underlying cause.

I recommend you try the officially recommended tools to create a boot disk and do a fresh installation. Don't forget to save important information before the new installation. Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

If there is anything unclear or I cannot understand your problem, please feel free to let me know.

    Regards,
