Windows 10: Computer Keeps on sending my folders to random places and deleting my history and settings

Hello,


I recently did a Windows update and I think it completely messed up my PC. When I logged in my background had changed to the default windows background (as well as the lock screen which had turned blue) . Every time I use my chrome browser after start up, all the history, extensions, and basically all my personal settings and passwords have been deleted. When I click on apps through the windows search bar such as "calculator" clicking on them doesnt open up anything. On top of this the file explorer shows that all typical folders like "photos, videos, documents, downloads" are empty. In order to see my files such as my downloads I had to go to...


C:\Users\My Username\Downloads


I spent an hour copying and pasting the files back into their appropriate folder, but the next day when I started my computer up they had been removed from the folders just like before.


So basically every time I restart the computer it goes back to this state. Unfortunately do not have antivirus due to a mess up in the uninstalling process for McAfee Antivirus, since then I have had trouble installing any antivirus software.



(note I tried to uninstall the windows update but when I tried it said the option is not available because windows was updated more than 10 days ago.

Trouble deleting a folder

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.

Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders? *Oh Well hwell:

 

How to remove folders from File History

• I had the same problem, and I solved in this way:
  Control Panel -> System and Security-> File History -> Turn off
  Settings -> Update & Security -> Backup -> More options -> Stop using this drive
  Delete the File History folder in your external drive.
  Start using File History again.
  After performing these steps, I can easily add folders to "Excluded Folders" and they remain excluded. I checked in the actual files and folders saved on the external disk, and it works.
  I did not modify the default settings about how often and how long backup is saved, File History is working ok now. So I guess it is important to click "Stop using this drive" in order to reset File History.

File History never copies anything

Temporary system failure is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. To help resolve the issue, we suggest deleting the files in the USB drive. Follow the steps below:

• Open Settings > Update & Security > Backup > More Options.
  
• Click Stop using this drive.
  
• Delete the File History folder on your external drive.
  
• Try again to add the USB drive to backup File History.
