Computer keeps trying to install update, but keeps restarting.

After I downloaded Windows 11, ver.23H2, my computer keeps restarting several times a day, but the result is always "Something didn't go as planned. Removing files, please keep your computer on. Then it tries again 3 or 4 times, and then Windows starts up, but the update isn't there. It is still in the update area and says "pending restart". this has been happening on some other downloads also, but has resolved itself. This one has not. I attempted to take a screenshot, but the error message disappears too quickly.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Computer (orginally 8) keeps rebooting to install updates

    Hi Christopher,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that your computer keeps restarting because of updates and I will be happy to answer your query. Let me ask you;

    • Which security software is installed in the computer?
    • Do you remember making any specific change in the computer prior to the issue?
    • Are you referring to an update or multiple?
    This could be due to several reasons and to diagnose the issue, I would suggest you to try the steps below and check;

Step 1: Remove any external devices connected to PC (except mouse and keyboard)

Step 2: Disable security software and check.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software,
you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Step 3: If you are referring to multiple updates, I would suggest you to try installing 4-5 updates at a time and then try restarting the computer.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

    My Computer Keeps Restarting

*Toast :toast: Glad to see I'm not alone. Of course there has been Windows Updates, but who know's if they are to blame. Yes it restarts randomly while I surf the web (especially if I watch Youtube Videos). Very seldomly it would freeze while I am playing a video game.

I will have to test my computer when I get home. Hopefully more people will come out and see if they are getting the same problem.

Computer keeps trying to install update, but keeps restarting.

    Computer/Display keeps on crashing

    Hi Julien,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concerned. Let me help you to fix the issue.

To understand the issue better I would like to know, which game are you trying to play?

Let’s try simple troubleshooting steps and check if this helps in resolving the issue. Follow the below steps:

    Method 1.

I recommend you to uninstall/reinstall the display adapter driver and check. Follow the below steps:

    • Press Windows key + X and click on
      Device manager
      .

    • Locate for display adapter and click on it to expand.

    • Right click on the device and click on
      uninstall
      .

    • Once you are done uninstalling the driver, restart the computer. It will automatically install the generic display adapter driver.
If this doesn’t help to fix the issue. I suggest you to update the display adapter driver. Skip step3 from the above steps and right click on the
    device and click on update.

    Method 2.

If the above method did not help to fix the issue, I would suggest you to
go to the AMD manufacturer website and download the latest display adapter driver. If the display driver is not available for Windows 10, try installing the available driver in compatibility mode and check.

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

    • Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.

    • Select Compatibility tab.

    • Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.

    • Let the driver install and then check the functionality.
Hope it helps. Keep posting us with the status we will be glad to help you.
