Windows 10: Computer keyboard shortcut. Switching between HDMI and laptop screen.

Hi folks.

I'm looking for a way to switch between HDMI and my laptop screen. Preferably a quick keyboard shortcut.
I have my laptop connected to my tv screen always, however, sometimes when i'm gaming on the tv i'll have to disconnect my HDMI to access my laptop screen, or will have to switch sources on my tv which i don't want to have to do. The laptop is a couple of years old and i worry that one day i will mess up the hdmi input pulling it in and out daily. I could probably explain it better but i'm not sure how to *Smile

I've done some of my own searching but people say to use the tv as a second screen or mirror the laptop screen. I find the light on my laptops screen distracting, why don't i close the laptop when i'm watching tv you say? The hinges are knackered plus when i open the laptop up again it starts mirroring my laptop screen again, it's inconvenient to say the least.

Windows 10 2560x1440 resolution

I solved it by switching from HDMI to DVI cable between my computer and my screen. This is wierd since it worked with HDMI cable and 2560x1440 resolution in windows 7... Anyway maybe this can help other people with this issue.

 

Lost desktop; can't right click; can't downsize my windows...please...someone help!

First off, I'm using a sony vaio laptop kind of like a pc. The screen on my laptop stopped working due to a problem in between the HDMI port and the laptop's screen. So until I can afford to fix this problem, I have been plugging a 20" flatscreen tv into
the hdmi port, as well as a 50" (for watching Netflix). Basically, I have to switch screens manually through the hdmi port. In between switching screens, something went wrong. I don't know what I did because things were running just fine...but I lost my desktop
and the ability to right click. I can't resize any web browser's windows either. And to make this even more complicated, I have nothing backed up in case I need to reboot. I can get at my files, but I can't split windows due to no ability to resize or right
click...PLEASE HELP! Basically, computers and I do not understand each other.

 

Most Notebooks/Laptops have a keyboard setting for control such as the Fn key plus another F key or other key/s for dimming/increasing the display, shouldn't affect the HDMI [or VGA on some] output. An example, my Vostro 1510 uses the Fn key plus the Up and Down arrows to make the changes while may ASUS uses the Fn key plus F5 or F6 for change.

 

I can't believe it. I've given my keyboard shortcuts a shot before, thought i pressed every button. I tried them again at your suggestion and guess what i've found the button that does exactly that. Though, in my defence it's the pg up and pg down keys. I assumed it was literal in that sense. Thank you very much! Not sure how i never noticed that before.
