  1. Computer logged in old account after reset

I did a regular restart because my computer was slow and when the computer started on the login screen there was only one account option. It was an old account from a previous owner. There was no trace of my account on the computer. It is as if it never even existed. But the weird thing is when i went to local disc my data and his data were all mixed up but my apps where nowhere to be found. What can I do to get my account and data back on the computer.

    :)

This is the Microsoft information for when you forget your XP Password that they used to have online.

Microsoft has pulled the links but the information will still be true.

"How to log on to your Windows XP-based computer if you forget your password or if your password expires"

Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional Edition

To log on to a computer as the administrator to reset a password, try the following steps.

    1. Log on as an administrator.
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE two times, and then type the name of the administrator user account.

Note If you do not know any other administrator user account, try to type
Adminstrator in the User name box.
      3. In the Password box, type the administrator password, and then click
        OK.

Note If you do not know the administrator password, leave it blank, and then click
        OK.
    2. Reset the password.
      1. Click Start, and then click Run.
      2. Type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
      3. On the Users tab, click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for, and then click
        Reset Password.
      4. Type a new password in the New password box, and then type the password again in the
Confirm new password box, and then click OK.
      5. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.

Old user account with Microsoft account reappeared on the computer

    Hi Graham,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

It is very unusual that the old profile has reappeared on the computer.

Ideally, the old profile will only reappear if System Restore has been performed on the computer. We would like to if you are aware of any changes made to the computer.

As you have mentioned that your Microsoft account is linked to your old profile, I would suggest you to convert the Microsoft account to a local account by following the steps mentioned below:

    1. Login to the old account.
    2. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open
      Settings.
    3. Click on Accounts and select
      Your info
      from the left pane.
    4. Click on Sign in with a local account instead.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

After converting the account to a local account, if you wish to delete the account, refer the steps mentioned below:

    1. Login to the newly created account.
    2. Press Windows Logo key + R, to open
      Run dialog box.
    3. Type control and click on
      OK
      .
    4. Select Large icons from the drop down for
      View by.
    5. Now, click on User Accounts.
    6. Click on Manage another account and select the user account that you want to remove.
    7. Click on Delete the account and select
Keep Files (if you want to keep the files of the user account) else select Delete
      to remove the account.

After deleting the old user account, to convert the new user account to a Microsoft account, go to
    Settings (Windows Logo key + I) >> Accounts >>
    Your info
    >> click on Sign in with a Microsoft account and follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope the information provided by me is helpful for you.

Let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to help you further.
