Windows 10: Computer not recognizing android phone when connected using USB cable

HEY, I BOUGHT ASUS VIVOBOOK GAMING LAPTOP WINDOWS 10 A FEW DAYS AGO.

WHEN I AM CONNECTING MY ANDROID PHONE TO THE PC , IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZES IT , BUT CHARGING IS ACTIVATED IN THE PHONE . EVERY OTHER DEVICE FLASH DRIVE , INPUT DEVICES [MOUSE,KEYBOARD] ARE BEING RECOGNIZED EXCEPT FOR PHONE , I'VE TRIED TO CONNECT OTHER MOBILE PHONES TOTHIS PC USING USB CABLES BUT SAME RESULT OCCURES EVERYTIME i.e THE PHONE STARTS CHARGING BUT THE PC DOES NOT RESPOND TO IT AS IF IT THE PHONE IS CONNECTED TO AN ADAPTER NOT A PC. THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS IN THIS PC , THE OTHER COMPUTERS RECOGNIZE THE PHONES AS THEY SHOULD.

PLEASE HELP AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

Unable to connect android device to PC using tio micro USB cable

Please reply with the following information to help you further:

• What happens when you connect the Android device to the computer?
  
• Do you receive any error message/code? If yes, what is the error message/code?
  

In the meantime, I suggest you to try connecting the device to a different USB port and see if that helps.



You may also refer the troubleshooting steps from Method 3 mentioned in the article

Error: “USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive.

Cannot see phone files on computer


SOLVED. It was a well-hidden setting to change the USB type.

I have a new phone running Android Oreo. I have taken a few test photos and a couple of test videos. Some have been saved to the phone's internal storage and some to an SD Card.

I have connected the phone to a W10 computer using the USB cable supplied with the phone. Windows identifies the phone correctly and automatically installs the driver and the phone is then correctly listed in Explorer. If I click on the phone in Explorer, Windows displays a message "No files on this device" and consequently the file section of the Explorer window is empty. The phone displays that it is being charged from the USB port. Therefore it would seem that both Windows and the phone are reporting that the USB connection is working as expected.

My previous phone was a Windows phone and as expected the phone worked seamlessly with Windows computers. I am still finding my way around Android so I may have missed something obvious. The instruction in the phone User Guide is simply to "......connect the phone to the Windows computer using the supplied USB cable and after installing the drivers the files and folders on your phone will be accessible.....".

Well that does not seem to be quite correct....*Sad

Laptop doesn't recognize connected android device.

We appreciate your effort on this. We understand that when you connect your Android device to the computer it is not recognized, we will look into this for you.



As per the description, the Android device only charges when you connect it to the computer. Hence, we would like to know if you see any Unknown device in Device Manager. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + X, and select
   Device Manager.
   
2. In Device Manager window, check if there is a section of
   Unknown device.
   
3. If you see Unknown device, right click on it and select
   Update Device.
   
4. If prompted, restart the computer.
   

I would also suggest you to follow the steps from the article Error:
“USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive except Method 2 and see if that makes any difference.
