Computer performance gradually getting worse over the years?

Hello, so I have this low-mid end pc and I've had this thing since I was a young buck, possibly around 7-8 years old. It's been around for as long as I can remember and it's been gradually getting worse..

I've once been capable of running games like CSGO on around medium graphics and a ridiculously modded fallout 4 with fairly decent graphics, probably minimum 50 - 100+ fps, and now? Psshh, about a year ago, I vividly remember getting the urge to play fallout 4 again and I quite literally couldn't get past the character customization screen. It was sitting at a crisp 10-20 frames, you know, smooth gameplay.

A few months ago I tried to get into csgo again and I once again found out that even with the lowest settings possible I was incapable of getting over 30-40 frames consistently.

A few years ago I tried Fortnite? 110+ fps. The last time I tried, a few months ago. Less than 30.

I never really told anyone about how badly my pc sucked, I kind of just toughed it up and moved on? In hindsight, that was very strange of me. Anyways, throughout the years every now and then when I got particularly fed up with the horrible framerates I'd spend several hours just researching and trying all the Software fixes I could find. This is another one of those times btw I'd try updating software, updating drivers, dusting out my pc, defragmenting my discs, checking for viruses, reinstalling windows, and factory resetting my pc completely. The obvious things ya know? This is my first time actually making a post about it though, can't wait to see how this fails.

Jokes aside, I'm thoroughly convinced my PC's hardware is just slowly getting worse as time flies by. Games I used to be able to run smoothly just won't run at all anymore. I want to get a new PC but I'm just a mere boy, so before making any rash decisions I want to be 100% sure there's nothing else I can do on my end.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 gradually getting slower

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur either due to software conflicts or if unused files are present in Windows.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run system maintenance troubleshooter and check if it helps. Please follow these steps:

    • Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.

    • Click "View all" and then click "System Maintenance".

    • Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions
Method 2: Perform a Clean boot. Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned
below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting".

And regarding the new drive which is auto created, I suggest you to restart the system several times and check if it’s showing.

    • Press Windows + R. Type diskmgmt.msc and
      Disk Management windows pops out.

    • Check if you are able to see the new drive which is created.

Let us know how it goes, we’ll be glad to assist you further.

    Regards.

Computer performance gradually getting worse over the years?

    It's getting worse

Thanks, Slice! This one gets printed. But I won't wait five hours for it to verify the files I have on this computer, since it's pretty much bare bones with Office 365 installed.
