Windows 10: Computer refuses to update when restarting

After I run updates on my computer it tells me to restart my PC to install them.

At 0% the computer quits attempting to update and restarts with an opening message


"We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes"

My computer refuses to update

My computer refuses to update Windows. When I try I get this error code: 0x80070057.

I have reset Windows and even reinstalled it at one point. It still tells me I need updates that it refuses to update. Any suggestions?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Computer refuses to restart or shutdown

I have done that. Removed, updated, disabled and rolled back this Intel management engine all without any change. The computer refuses to restart or shutdown. If I logoff however that's working just fine. If I force the computer to shut down using the power
button it restarts just fine. No delay from either a drive being fixed or any other background process delaying boot. I don't have a whole lot of unnecessary stuff loading at startup this is essentially a clean install with an update applied to it. I would
like to try a safe start but that's not happening because computer refuses to restart.

Every time I look at those drives in Linux they report the drives as being in an "unclean" state. I think that's the crux of the cause. Some process is writing something to the drive(s) that's leaving something unfinished there. When I perform a shut down
or restart the drive light blinks (at a very slow rate) every few seconds

Just checking around online this seems to be a very common problem and frankly the answers from Microsoft are not very helpful.
