Windows 10: Computer reinstall is stuck

Some background

I was messing with some settings in the new modern warfare. For some reason the fullscreen resolution was terrible and I was trying to fix it. When I switched the game back to fullscreen windowed my frames dropped so I closed the game thinking that would help. When I closed the game my computer was still struggling even though nothing taxing was open (discord, steam, chrome). I tried restarting it and the cpu went to 100% every time something opened and basic tasks went very slowly. I checked to make sure all my drivers were up to date after that and I ran a virus scan that came back clean. I tried doing a restore and it took a few hours and then froze so I restarted. I’m now trying to do a windows refresh(saving no data) and it’s stuck again. I don’t know what to do. I can clarify things if needed in the comments. Any help is appreciated to either continue the refresh or to stop my cpu from throttling to 100% for seemingly no reason.

I have a ryzen 1500x. I was not overclocking when this happened.

is it possible to hand build a motherboard?

Might I suggest you simply build a computer, making notes and taking pictures step by step. Most people (probably including your teacher) have no idea even where to start building a computer. You'll do fine, and if you get stuck we're here to help ya out! *Toast :toast:

 

Stuck in Windows 10 Upgrade

My computer seems to be stuck in a Windows 10 failed upgrade loop. I was running fine on a beta version of Windows 10, and then I came downstairs one morning to see it repeatedly booting, attempting to repair, then rebooting. The steps I've taken to diagnose are:

• Attempting to boot off a USB drive (with all drives disabled in BIOS) - this fails at the point of the blue windows screen
  
• Attempting to boot the machine itself and getting into "repair/safe mode" using F7
  
• Looking at the BIOS for obvious failures (e.g. RAM that should be there is missing) - nothing obvious is wrong.
  

I am fairly certain the build version was 9926. For many months, the system would attempt to upgrade, and then say "it failed" for some reason and roll back.

Suggestions for next steps?
