  2. Can I recover an accidentally closed unsaved and untitled Word file?

    Hi.

    My name is Miles.

Normally when one deletes a file by accident in Word, it is automatically deleted. In the same way, I encourage you to perform these actions that can help, since, if Word has not created a backup of the document, it is possible to use the AutoRecover function
    to recover the lost document.

Note: The Word AutoRecover feature performs an emergency backup of open documents when an error occurs. However, some errors may interfere with the creation of an AutoRecover file. The AutoRecover function does not replace saving the document.

When the Save AutoRecover information option every [] minute is enabled, Word creates a temporary AutoRecover file that includes the latest document changes. Every time Word starts, it looks for AutoRecover files. If Word finds an AutoRecover file, it displays
the files it finds in the Document Retrieval task pane.

First, to check if the option Save Autorecover information is enabled every [] minute, follow one of the following steps:

    • If you use Word 2007: click the Microsoft Office button, click Word Options, and then click Save. The option Save Autorecover information every [] minute is in the section Save documents.

    • If you use Word 2003: click Options on the Tools menu. The option Save Autorecover information every [] minute is located on the Save tab.

Next, if the Save AutoRecover information every [] minutes option is enabled, try closing Word and reopening it. If the AutoRecover task pane appears on the left side of the screen, click on the lost document to restore it.

If the Save AutoRecover information option every [] minute is not activated, you can try to force Word to retrieve the document.

Use one of the following steps to force Word to retrieve the document:

    • If you use Word 2007: click the Microsoft Office button, click Open, select the Word document, click the down arrow on the Open button in the lower right corner of the Open screen, and then click Open and repair.

    • If you use Word 2003: click Open on the File menu, select the Word document, click the down arrow on the Open button in the lower right corner of the Open screen, and then click Open and repair.

    Autorecovered .xls files on C-Drive

Autorecover files generally only get left behind if Excel or the file you're working on crash / are not closed normally.

I suggest checking the main files before deleting anything in case you need to get into the autorecover ones to retrieve any data.
