Computer restarts after clicking shut down or sleep after W10 upgrade

First I want to apologize if this post is in the wrong section, I have never used these forums before. I have also searched around for answers to my issue but none seem to have the same problem. So here we go, mind that I just upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and the problems have only started since:

Clicking on "Shut down" shuts computer down, however fans and fan lights continue running and 5-10 seconds later computer starts back up.
Clicking on "Sleep" shuts the computer down, however fans and fan lights continue running and 5-10 seconds later computer starts back up.
Adjusting power settings to 1min to engage sleep mode, puts computer to sleep (or at least turns display off) while fans and lights stay on, about 2 mins later computer comes out of sleep (or display turns back on).
Holding the actual power button on computer for 3 seconds is the only way to successfully turn the computer off.

It is odd considering clicking sleep has the same effect as clicking shut down, and therefore I can't seem to find any other people having the same issue. The following is the power diagnostics report, I also attempted to disable srvnet through elevated CMD to no success:

Windows 10 Randomly Shutting Down My PC

I just had Microsoft for $49 reinstall W10 as it was completely corrupted and could not be reset. Unfortunately the system still shuts down as described by Sam and can be restarted just like it had been shut down in Sleep mode. Has anyone figured out what
the problem is? It started after initially installing W10

Can't shutdown or sleep computer, problem with NFC SMBus Device?

    Hi,

After upgrading to Windows 10 I am having trouble shutting down or putting to sleep my computer. After I shut it down or put it to sleep it restarts or wakes up within a few minutes.

I think it might be an issue with the NFC SMBus device as there is an exclamation point on it and it says STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE in properties. I have tried updating it, scanning for changes, enabling and disabling it, restarting the computer, checking
    for windows updates...but nothing works.

How do I resolve this issue?

Computer restarts after clicking shut down or sleep after W10 upgrade

I am having the same problem, Desktop PC will not shut down, I have undertaken a clean install, this made no difference, the PC still failed to shutdown, in desperation, I installed a brand new Samsung SSD 850 EVO, yet again, I still have the problem. I put an old harddrive in mt PC with Windows 8.1, everything perfect, so looks like Windows 10 needs a few updates.

After trying everything I possibly could, I came across a suggestion to uninstall a program call ONOFF by Gigabyte. This solved the issue, simply go into "Apps/Programs" scroll down to ONOFF by Gigabyte and click uninstall. No idea why or what the program does but everything works perfectly now.

It charges r USB devices while r computer is sleeping or off, and can charge certain devices more quickly. Very annoying, especially if have a WiFi adapter plugged in, because it will keep receiving power even if aren't using the computer.

I'm not sure about the shutdown issue, but the sleep issue might be being caused by a WiFi adapter or something like that still operating due to On/Off charge and causing the computer to wake up.

Computer restarts after clicking shut down or sleep after W10 upgrade

I have not installed the Gigabyte On/Off, all I have installed is the basic drivers, yet I still have the problem of the PC rebooting, not shutting down.
If I remember correctly this was also an issue on one of the earlier builds via this insider program.

Another issue I have come across as well, is the PC will not wake from sleep mode, so I have set my PC and Screen to never sleep.

  11. Was having the same problem. Got so frustrated to the point I reinstalled Windows 10 and I shutdown the machine each step during the setup process to see at which point the problem is triggered.

And I found the culprit (which BTW indicates to me that Windows 10 is still a little buggy at this stage) - USB device drivers. I have several musical equipment (MIDI interface, Firewire Audio etc), and each of these device drivers would cause Windows to restart automatically after shutdown.

I figured out a workaround - after the problem started occurring, with the machine powered off (or during its boot-up cycle in BIOS), physically disconnect all of the devices of which the drivers are causing this problem, then cycle through Windows startup / shutdown once or twice. If you are like me, the machine will now NOT restart anymore. Now reconnect these devices and fingers crossed the machine will continue to behave as it should once again when you try and shut it down.

I still get the occasional (one out of 10 times?) auto restart issue after this, but much better than before. Hopefully MS will fix this issue real soon.

    Hi guys

UPDATE: Just saw Syds post - that's what you need to disable.

Another first timer here trying to solve his boot issues.
Tried everything you suggested but it failed to work since I don't have the ON/OFF Gigabyte app.
What worked and solved the problem was:

    Control Panel >
Power Options (Change what the power buttons do) >
Change settings that are currently unavailable >
*DISABLE* - Turn on fast start-up.

I did some power options tweaking that might helped solving the problem but I doubt it was their doing.
My advice is to try the steps above and see if it solves the problem (requires 3-4 mins)

    All the best.

  13. Computer restarts after clicking shut down or sleep after W10 upgrade

Just to say a quick thankyou to Syd and Idriz; after the latest Windows 10 update (where they changed the title bar colours), my system refused to wake the monitors after resuming from sleep. Very irritating; perfectly fine before the update.

Fortunately, your suggestion of disabling Fast Boot seems to have sorted it. It takes considerably longer to wake up, but the screens do come back now, at least.

Now all I need is to Microsoft to fix whatever it was they broke in the first place...! *Rolleyes

  14. I've recently experienced the PC re-booting after it had been Shut Down with the power still applied; this seems to fixed the problem.

    Open Registry editor.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wi*ndows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
and double click on PowerDownAfterShutdown and change the value to zero from one, or to one from zero
Restart your computer to apply the changes!

I registered on this site to tell you that you Sir, are my hero.

All of the other fixes have thus far not helped at all but this APPEARS to have helped. Early stages yet but it's looking good!

    THANKYOU!
